Thanks
Katheryn is stunning so drawing that picture was a real pleasure.
The urge to watch the new series is really strong but my wife and I usually wait until the series has aired so we can binge watch the whole lot over a couple of days.

I agree. That is smart, so it only one long wait and not many shorter once. I think I might be too week - tempted to watch the 2 episode premiere this weekend x)

Well, we're going to hold fast and binge it.
I can take shows weekly but my wife can't so we'll save this. I have plenty of other stuff to keep me going.
We might just binge series 1-4 and then go straight into 5

Baby Groot thanks you for the llama

Nice that you watch it together! Very true, also you can draw, more of a value creation activity

If it's a series we both love then we'll always watch together.
She's slowly catching up with my library of shows but new stuff we go for at the same time

I never draw when watching TV, need my work desk to be comfortable.

So you are the show expert? You have any top picks, maybe I get a good tip  Of course, I did not mean while you are watching - that would be impressive multitasking!

Starfire-Productions In reply to designingdisasters [2017-12-02 22:10:01 +0000 UTC]

Of the two of us, yes.
I have a library of over 1400 dvds and over 1000 vhs with shows going back to the 60's

Recommendations, well that depends on what sort of genre you like.

Occasionally I will sketch / doodle when the TVs on though.

Wow, that makes you a proper specialist in my book! All the way back to 60s, my TV knowledge is likely lacking.

I like many genres, but likely action, adventure and sci fi the most (game of thrones, doctor who and sherlock is often in my top 3)

I also doodle while watching TV, but not when properly watching - like with vikings x)

Lol, I'm just a collector but a lot of good TV can be found in the 60s-80s

There's been a lot of great sci-fi shows but most have died and been cancelled because they came out at the wrong time. With things like Prime and Netflix today, they would've stood a chance. Space: Above And Beyond, Threshold, Odyssey 5, The 4400, all cut down in their prime which is a shame. Still watch them though, they're good shows.
Yes, those three are watched regularly here, too
Can't wait for the DW Christmas special. Finally about to fill a plot hole going all the way back to The Tenth Planet at the end of Hartnell's era. Plus Derek Jacobi is returning as the Master!

Yeah, doodling is reserved for stuff I've seen before. Vikings 5.01 is on the watchlist.
Very disappointed that The Man in the High Castle series 3 isn't being released yet. It always comes out on my birthday but looks like it will now be next year some time
I was looking forward to that!

designingdisasters In reply to Starfire-Productions [2017-12-10 10:32:10 +0000 UTC]

Yhe, can see that - and it is also something about sci-fi nowadays in terms of ability to make it look so realistic. Taking DW as an example the 50 years special and effects are at a totally different level from the start of the new version Steven Moffat picked up in 2005. Though noted the shows on my block yet a good show being canceled in its prime is really frustrating.
Looking forward to that too! I have not actually watched the version before 2005 though

Noted that on my watchlist, haven't heard of that one before. But that is annoying, especially when they do postpone series for an entire year(thank you, Sherlock -.-)! Still, I'm sure that with your vast collection and series knowledge you find something else great to watch

To be honest, I still love the classics. Okay, it's not as polished at today's stuff but often the characters and ideas are a lot more entertaining.
My Dad got me into things like Star Trek, the Invaders, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Mission Impossible etc etc and that got me started

Russell T Davies started the new Doctor Who in 2005, Steven Moffat didn't take over the reins until series 5 when Matt Smith took over as the Doctor.
Before that he just wrote scripts
Well 'Twice Upon A Time' will explain why Hartnell was not in episode 3 of The Tenth Planet (the first Cyberman story). The real reason was because of his failing health but now it will be because he'll be off having an adventure with his future self. Nicely done.
Over the last few years I have been really disappointed with DW because you have a great actor like Capaldi and he's getting awful material to work with. Such a shame because he's a really good Doctor.

Those shows were all really good
Space Above And Beyond was essentially Top Gun in Space. A team of young pilots called into service when humans are attacked by an alien race. Great cast, good solid scripts and a lot of nice ideas put together.
Threshold was one of the best in the last 20 years. It's about bioforming. Again great cast, Peter Dinklage is wonderful as Ramsey, good scripts and 13 episodes of solid sci-fi.
Odyssey 5 ran for 1 series. A really nice take on time travel where a shuttle crew witness the destruction of Earth and an alien sends their consciousness back in time 5 years into their younger selves so they can change the future. Nice ideas on inorganic lifeforms.
The 4400 actually ran for 4 years, despite the network's attempts to shut it down after 2. Such a shame we didn't get the final year but again a nicely put together ensemble mixing abductions, time travel and nanotechnology into one story.

The Man In The High Castle is an Amazon exclusive. You can binge the first 2 years now. Based on the Phillip K Dick novel, it centres around parallel realities and a world where the end of WW2 was very different. Amazing cast, nicely paced and I want series 3 now

In the mean time, we're currently working our way through Luther, cracking police drama with Idris Elba.

That is a very good point, still will always prefer terminator 1-2 to the new ones, much better stories and more heart in my opinion. Still, I am a bit of a special effects nerd, love the artwork they create  Always though a good story in a TV show/movie is artwork in itself.

Nice, makes me watch them more Think the one from amazon is the easiest to get a hold of, might start with that (If we could only time-travel - season 3 would definitely be in reach!) Oh, nice I should check that one out as well, Idris Elba is good!

Starfire-Productions In reply to designingdisasters [2017-12-10 19:07:18 +0000 UTC]

If I was watching Terminator again I'd watch 1, 2 and then both series of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Much better story together like that. Forget Rise Of The Machines, Machinima series, Salvation and Genisys completely

Special effects are great but I'd rather they enhanced the story, not took it over. As much as I love Star Trek, I have to admit the remastered versions are nicely done. I still have the originals because the model work was great.
Always loved Gerry Anderson's stuff mot only for the exquisite model work but also the havoc he wrought blowing everything up

Well, those few should get you started.
When you've worked through those, I can point you in the direction of more
