Yo; I know it was over a year ago but you asked if you could use me Superman redesign concept.
I am of course completely okay with this; though slow on the response.

Yeah, its been years since I've taken a biology course so I'm a bit rusty. Once I'm done with my 6 years in the military, I'm gonna go to college and get a degree in biology. I'd love to be a paleontologist.
What sort of career field are you aiming for?

Physicians Assitant. A college up here has a joint program with the school I go to now, and I can get early assurances. It's a 28 month program. All their requirements are easy, the courses I can easily do, I just to get C's and higher.
The difficult part is I need to have 1000 hours(NOT 100, ONE THOUSAND) Hours of Health Care Experience. And on their list of Acceptable HCE it's stuff like Veterinarian, Pharmacy technician, all these careers you have to GO to school for. I'm all...HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?
Fortunately, they said they understand students can't do that, so theres some things I can do in a hospital or Nursing home to satisfy that. Still though, 1000 hours.....and it's probably volunteer stuff, for the things a student can do, so probably no pay. Either way, i need to get on that.

Sounds difficult, I hope you can get those hours. Especially since tuition rates are so damn high.

Devilchild93 In reply to electroradio [2011-11-12 23:23:26 +0000 UTC]
Yup, and the tutition rates at my school hiked up...not to mention the loss of some of the language classes and I think the drama department and business as well. We also have a huge fountain in the middle of the castle, larger than some school pools, and students go in it during the warmer months. But now that's being shut down. We had a thing called fountain day and that would be the first day the fountain got turned back on, and there would be games and food, and all that. They would fill the fountain up with rubber duckies with our schools t-shirt. That got canceled last year, due to some students being idiots, and now the fountain is being shut down. Oh, but we are still making parking lots, making new buildings...ah well.

What college do you go to? I'm planning on ASU, but it might change in 5 years...

Yeah, it sucks. Thing is with me, financial aid helps. ALOT. But I still need cash to pay for rent, groceries, books, electricity. And then My mom has her own bills. My father is paying child support, but that's going to end this July. And that's what my mom is worried about, sure I will have the Financial aid, but it's going to be hard paying for all my other things. So I need to look for a job, but ALSO get my HCE...ah life.

Yea, that's why I ended up joining the Air Force. I couldn't find a job anywhere in my town for 2 whole years. I gave up and joined. It's a 6 year detour, but they pay for college and I'll be able to have some money when I separate from the military. It really goes against my morals though, I feel so terrible every time I said I joined for money. That's the damn truth though.
I hope you can find a job soon, umemployment is a bitch.

Yeah, I can see why joining the military for money. Sometimes you got to do what you have to do. I mean, look at the girls who strip for cash or will allow themselves to be sexually harassed(and I don't mean the harmless sexist joke here and there that some woman report as sexual harassment) because they need the cash.

She's a complete idiot, she said that the LGBT community has the rights to marriage just like heterosexuals do. Saying that a gay man can marry a woman and a gay woman can marry a man...she's so damn ignorant it makes my brain hurt.
And Islamophobia? Sick of it. I can't stand it when people think that Muslim women are "oppressed" for wearing a hijab, nijabs, or burkas. It's her damn choice to wear it and it completely ignores the actual physical and mental abuse that women suffer, no matter where they live and who they are. That whole controversy about the mosque near ground zero made me ashamed to be an American.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Devilchild93 In reply to electroradio [2011-12-04 02:34:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, people don't understand that oppression isn't "forcing a woman to cover up", because it isn't forced, in most cases, there are expectations. I think women in America are oppressed. Look at it, You can say you have equal rights all you want and that you are an equal citizen, but when it comes down it it, you have less pay. You are seen as an Object. Girls are taught from a young age that your only value is your appearance. The media certainly doesn't help, we're just sex objects. And even when you DO see a strong female character, she's ALSO sexified. If a girl in some show likes sports? She's turned lesbian. Female superheros? Give her a pair of huge breasts and give her a teeny outfit.
Which is why I kind of laugh at those woman who dress like....they should be working the street corner, and say it's for "themselves". is it? Is it REALLY?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
electroradio In reply to Devilchild93 [2011-12-04 05:16:24 +0000 UTC]
I really don't have a problem with a woman dressing slutty if she wants to, like the hijab, its her choice to wear what she wants. But the objectification in the media is definitely not the woman's choice. The media is ran by men. Less than 20% of women are directors, writers, and producers. And only one or two women are on the CEO board of directors for the major media companies.
So many women are starving themselves and have eating disorders and waste billions of dollars on make up on plastic surgery when they look perfectly fine.
And on a more serious notion, we live in a terrible rape culture where women don't feel safe to come out against their rapist because they are afraid that people will blame her for getting raped...and the sad thing is, is that they do get blamed for it. Look at the Herman Cain fiasco and almost all the male ran media business tried to slut sham the woman. Even Herman Cain and his advisers slut shamed them.
And getting into politics? Hah! You'll be laughed at for being a woman and turned away because you wouldn't be able to make good decisions while on your period. All the women in politics are objectivfied too, Sarah Palin becomes a sex icon for men and then Hilary Clinton is turned into this bitchy and ugly stereotype of a manly woman.
UGUHGHGHUGUH. THIS WORLD. Hahah. Ranttttting.

Devilchild93 In reply to electroradio [2011-12-04 05:27:46 +0000 UTC]
Yup. Yup so true. When we blame the woman for being raped, we're not so different than those middle eastern countries that stone women for being raped. It's frustrating. And of course the men won't admit it.
Did you know, in a study from 2006, it was revealed that in a study black men, and white men, (the 2 groups were broken down into 2 more groups: with a criminal record and with out a criminal record) all equally qualified for a job, more white men were called back. More white men with a criminal record were called back than black men WITH a criminal record.
It's frustrating because this needs to be put out there, and even if it DOES get out there, people are just going to shrug it off and say. Stop bitching. Quit whining. That's not true. You're just a feminazi. You're just some crazy black person blah blah blah.
They had a movie: Miss Representation and that looked awesome.
Seriously though, for a country that prides itself on Equality and Justice for all, we're seriously screwing some people over.
I can understand not seeing the inequality, because it's not easy to see UNLESS you are receiving it or unless it is blatantly obvious, but when a person is show all the info and given proof and they still ignore it, that's what gets me annoyed.

Very true, racism is still very much alive. Just look at what happened to Troy Davis and thousands of other men. I didn't really know it was still alive until the internet, the schools do a very good job trying to convince you that all our problems are gone.
I saw Miss Representation, it was actually really good. I definitely recommend it.

I'm guessing, you, like me, live in the north? I think alot of people who like in the Northern USA would be surprised by the things that go on even today in the south/deep south. Hell, I've heard LONG ISLAND is pretty bad with racism.

No, I live in Arizona but I'm currently in Texas for tech school and I'll be moving to Florida in late Jan. And the basze I'm going to in Florida is near Louisiana and Georgia so I'm expecting even more racism there than in western Texas.
I won't be silent when people say racist things though, which I think is a very tough thing to do because people don't like it when someone challenges status quo.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Devilchild93 In reply to electroradio [2011-12-18 20:32:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Well, good luck with that. Thing is, racism is easy to overlook if it isn't blatantly obvious or if you're not the one experiencing it. Still, I don't think it should be too bad....One of the things I like about the south(or atleast Texas, OTHER than Austin) is that alot of people are nice and very well mannered. It's not as if we're rude up here, but it seems to be more formal down there.
