# About me
I enjoy capturing the scenery and vistas that unfold as I travel both near and far from home. Photography provides me with a relaxing pastime and many treasured memories of the places I have visited. My camera is one of my most prized possessions and the images it takes are much cherished. I like to think there is beauty everywhere...beauty that can be captured, shared and preserved for posterity in photographs.
I'm 50 years old and live in Perth, Western Australia. I've always loved to travel and photography and travel are the perfect partners. As I'm single and live alone, I have a many opportunities for both. When I return from my travels I enlarge my best photos, glue them on backing card, label them and then place them in display books. As I've travelled extensively, I'm now on to my ninth display book. Recently, I've begun stitching panoramas and they have become my new passion. The best ones I have printed and I paste them into a large art sketch book. My collection of favourite prints is ever-expanding and I sometimes wonder just how large my collection is going to get!
A lot of people tell me I'm great at photography, that I have a "good eye" for it and that they enjoy viewing my work. My mother was an artist, being an excellent drawer and oil painter, but, unfortunately, she neglected to pass any of those talents on to me. However, she was also a great landscape photographer and used many of the images she captured on an old film camera as inspirations for her paintings. As a result, I feel I have inherited some of my photographic ability from my mother.....thanks, Mum!
About five years ago, I retired my trusty compact digital camera and entered the world of DSLR photography when I purchased a Canon EOS 550D. It's an easy camera to use but I was just using the automatic functions so, even though I was happy with some of my photos, I wasn't truly satisfied with the results. I felt I wasn't doing my camera justice so, wanting to improve my skills, I took a short photography course where I learnt how to use my camera's manual settings and how to manipulate exposure. Now that I have finished my course, all I want to do is practice what I have learnt. My enthusiasm for photography is now at an all time high and I can't wait to see where my new-found skills take me. Now that I've joined this site, maybe you may choose to come along for the ride.
