One hell of a painter. Although you paint in a somewhat traditional way your portraits are singular, very unique. I love your images, a delight to look at. I bet the original works are stunning! I would definitely attend a show of your work.Β I am an artist who shows but IΒ do not like to go to many shows. However, I would go see your work. I added you to my watch.

Thanks Eric. Well you are in luck, I have just booked my next exhibition in Soho Galleries Sydney Australia. The opening night will be on the 1st Oct 2016, next year so you will have plenty of time to get out here, it only takes about 30 hours or so.
Yes I like the old masters style of work but with todays subjects, skill is as important to me as subject but you are right traditional is not theΒ flavor of the month. Who cares, art is about what the artist wants, not what the teachers want.
Thanks for the Add.

EricTonArts In reply to graemeb [2015-10-07 11:46:32 +0000 UTC]
I agree with your comment about skill. I paint in a unique way but I try to make my work well crafted whether I work traditionally or digitally. I come from a generation of artist and art training that focused on concept over technical skill and even looked down on someone's desire to make well craftedΒ work. That has changed some what over the years so it is nice to see unique but skilled works. What draws me to art is something unique. That trumps skill and concept for me. I want to see something I have not seen before. You do that with a more traditional painting technique which I find wonderful. I want to see the artist passion and love for what they do regardless of what anyone else thinks. That is what draws me to art.

graemeb In reply to EricTonArts [2015-10-08 21:49:01 +0000 UTC]
The funny thing about skill is, it comes whether we want it or not. If you do the same thing over and over then you will gain skill. So dose this mean your work deteriorates the longer you do it.
If the image is the all important factor of art, why should it matter how the image is made, photo, digital or painted.
An artist who paints because they love to paint, will not do well in uni. fine arts over here, more so if they have any sort of realism in their work. They push their own agenda down artists throats. In other words they try to break the artist and make them do as they are told.
This statement of yours 'I want to see the artist passion and love for what they do regardless of what anyone else thinks.' is precisely what an artist should do.

Hey Graeme, how did your exhibition go? Sorry I haven't commented much lately; I pretty much have a quick look at my pile of messages before running away again. From what I have seen though your pieces are still awesome. Chasing Peacocks in particular grabs me, as well as Old Enough To Have Bad Memories.
Keep up the awesomeness mate

graemeb In reply to noisybubbles [2013-10-30 20:37:25 +0000 UTC]
Hey Bubbles, the opening was great, prob. about 200 people over the night, but sales have been slow. Although I just sold my entry in the mortimore art prize, that's good.
I'm doing the same, not on here much, I think I have out grown it and I am moving on.
All the ladies like Chasing Peacocks but it has not sold yet, Bad Memories is in the Gosford Art Prize.
I'm trying to stay awsome but taking a break from painting at the moment.

noisybubbles In reply to graemeb [2013-11-01 09:40:19 +0000 UTC]
Oh cool; I hope Bad Memories does well. Fingers crossed your sales will pick up as Christmas comes along. It's probably a silly notion but maybe there will be people who buy your paintings as gifts? They would make great gifts
That's fair enough about the site; I'm so busy I can barely keep up with everything here and sometimes I wonder whether it's all worth it. However, if it wasn't for DA I probably wouldn't have found your work, and for that I am grateful.
You don't have to try and stay awesome; you just are. I hope you're finding your break refreshing Mr Balchin
