dead man walking. sorry for the late starter !
Reaper had no idea where he was and, honestly, he didn't really care. It was perfect for what he needed to do. This city was a cesspool of crime and murder, just what he needed at this precise moment. Consuming souls was what he did now. This was his curse. He made the best of it- that was all he could do. The wraith easily moved through the riots in the city, slithering between the groups of thugs fighting. Needless to say, he wasn't very impressed. Their skill was lacking. He forced the former military man in his head to stay quiet. He didn't care what humanity was up to. He needed to feed, then find his way back to where he was from.
He breathed in slowly as he crouched over the bodies of several of the men he'd slain in his last fight, heaving a sigh. "You're staring," he drawled, lifting his shotguns to aim at her. "Be still. I'll make this quick."

[ word had gone out that there was an unknown entity who had arrived in gotham not long ago, and had already slain a notable amount of people. reports described him as if a ghost, a black wraith amongst humans; it wasn't the strangest thing in the city. but it was one of the more unnerving ones, really. barbara was the first to volunteer to take the case, and while batman had initially been wary, he allowed it; she was more than smart and careful enough. so she trailed this being, not yet engaging but observing. the girl needed information on this; and so far, what she saw intrigued her. he literally fed on souls it looked like; bore two shotguns which he seemed to reform after draining them of their ammunition. moving through fights like nothing, the stench of death very much present wherever his path took her following eyes. ]
[ shit. one minor slip, and now he knew she was here; aiming his supernatural esque weaponry at her. his voice, to her, sounded relatively intimidating; but she'd fought things like him before. ]
"Yeah, about that. I'm fidgety."
[ a quick one-liner, followed by two batarangs towards each of his hands in an attempt to disorient his gun. at the same time she dropped smoke to cloud the area around them, using the lack of visibility to her advantage. if he wanted to fight, he'd damn well get one. ]

ooc. YES ok ok how to start this off......
Unbeknownst to much of the population of Gotham, once upon a time, most of the resident villains that terrorized today were... normal. A prime example of this was Poison Ivy, who, due to unfortunate circumstances, had morphed into the being she is today. Much in line with the same ones who had organized Task Force X, there was a new project: project Janus. This particular plan was to utilize recent advances in time technology in order to study and observe villains' past selves, hopefully providing more information.
The almost natural volunteer for this would be a hero - and, in all her selfless nature, of course ut'd be Barbara Gordon. It was only coincidence that the first subject was Poison Ivy, a precursor to delving into more complicated scenarios. The only warning the scientists gave before sending her to a University campus in Seattle was to not get excessively attached, and to keep in mind who Ivy would end up becoming.

[ when barbara had been informed there had been an organized, classified project nicknamed "Janus" that involved the concept of time travel and using it to study the villains and who they were before the fall, she almost didn't believe it. time travel wasn't supposed to be a thing for such a long time; yet here it was, right at her fingertips; and she could use it to do good. the girl volunteered almost immediately, after a bit of placation of batman and his concerns. they'd already taken care of any possible obstacles; they'd registered her to the university, and certain programs; made sure her dorm was with one ms.pamela isley, and provided her with any and all documents that would be needed. upon being warned, she said she'd be fine; but she knew that it would be easier said than done. barbara was already on alright terms with ivy in the present; without the villainous tendencies, would that good relation only become stronger? a lot of questions ran through her mind as she went in, electricity jolting about, touching her body constantly. ]
[ one moment, she was in gotham; entering an experimental device that nobody knew would actually work. the next, she was in the seattle, on the other side of the nation, within the University that Ivy would be attending. she didn't look too out of the ordinary; normal, civilian clothing instead of a batsuit. a young university student, as anyone else. inhaling a little due to a nervous internal feeling, she composed herself to refrain from giddiness; she'd just traveled in time. the first to do so, in, well, ever without special powers. barbara had her cover story; young woman, originally born in gotham but who moved to seattle at age 16 to fully study for university. simple, believable with her documents, nothing to attract attention. she made her way to where her dorm would be located. where, presumably, ivy would be; knocking on the door. god, i wish they'd given me a key. ]

ooc. in this weeks episode of: the Gays heck up really bad
( the present poison ivy had no idea about this new endeavour that, very heavily, involved her. the only shape or form that it'd effect her was from creating new memories if there was a lot of interaction, and the crucial thing was to not change the pinnacle event that caused the turning point into her transformation. in short: don't mess with her interactions with her professor, and don't get attached and stop the experiment that causes her to morph. it shouldn't have been that hard, but the scientists also had no idea about Barbara's already good terms with the present incarnation of ivy. )
( years in the past, and ivy looked normal. no, not ivy - medical and botanic student pamela lillian isley. prodigy in her subjects and near genius, her skin was a healthy peach and her lips were the normal flushed red color they should have been. her eyes, however, were still that piercing green - stark, intense green. she was still, even then, inhumanly attractive. that wasn't completely obvious to her now, though, as she opened the door, dulcet voice nearly almost immediately meeting barbara's ears. )
is that - oh. um, i wasn't expecting - christ, come in, darling. i didn't know when you'd get here.
( her voice was quiet, and she turned, quickly gathering up strewn papers everywhere and stacks of books. freckles were splayed across her nose and cheeks against pale skin and the initial impression was a woman who was rather shy, and most of all, human. )

[ barbara knew that she couldn't change a few key events; namely involving a, in her opinion, disgusting professor. the experiments. the downright torture. she could stop it, before it happened; but she knew doing that would change everything, for everyone. would it be for the better, or would things be so much worse without the true ivy? barbara didn't know. barbara was scared to know. for now, she'd observe and interact; any key hobbies that would carry over, key relations; anything. everything. everything can and would be used as data, to perhaps either get an edge over the present villain; or even convince to abandon villainous tendencies. for now though; she'd be the scout of these operations. ]
[ her heart seemed to speed up momentarily; oh, god damnit. ivy, or pamela in this case, was just as beautiful here. unnaturally so; blessed with some of the best appearance genetics, apparently. made her a little jealous of course, but she'd taken every measure to not end up fawning over it; and her voice sounded....so sweet. shy. it was adorable, to say it as an understatement. so much different from the sultry, confident stature she'd heard and seen whilst dodging lethal toxins and vines. seeing in the background, she was quite the intelligent woman; all the books, the papers; she must've excelled in her field. it broke her heart a little, really; seeing such a bright, shy young woman....knowing it'd all be stolen right out from under her by some asshole with an evil, self-consuming drive to be in the know, ethics be damned. ]
it's alright!
yeah it's. been a weird day, it's all good.
[ barbara, bag slung on her shoulder, walked into the dorm room, door shutting behind her. seemed nice enough; aside from the papers and books being cleaned, the entire room was well taken care of. thank god; she'd seen how a lot of dorm rooms could get. and she preferred a cleaner living space; so to get that with pamela was a blessing, to say the least. ]

( a breathless chuckle left the red head as she set down the stack of books and papers on a desk near her bed on her side of the room, clear in how there was a small moon cactus on the windowsill and a framed picture of herself and two others sat on the desk. presumably her family, with her mother sharing the same green eyes and freckles and her father sporting short tuffs of vibrant red hair. all of them were smiling. so normal. ivy had never mentioned anything about her family, nor showed any indication she even cared about them, with no photos in sight in her apartment. )
you're from gotham, right? does it take long to fly in from there? i've never visited.
( pamela reached up, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear in habit. the rest of her long locks were pushed back by a green pair of glasses resting on top of her head. blinking, the woman held a hand out hastily. god, why'd her dorm mate have to be so pretty? it was just her luck. )

[ barbara shook her hand, a little amused at the haste she was going with; shy, but could certainly be energetic. her eyes did catch a glimpse of the photo; parents, probably. ivy had no such things in the present; did she lump them in with the rest of humanity in her misanthropic tendencies? a lot of questions, coming from something as simple as a family photo. thank god the people behind this project were able to make sure they even shared classes; and, from her interactions with the present ivy, she did know quite abit about botany and environmental sciences herself. the perks of befriending a villain. this was gonna be a long trip, if anything kept up. ]
aw, it's ok.
barbara gordon.
hey! we share a class; that's nice.
[ she could use her real name; at this point in time, barbara and gordon were both relatively common for first and last names. nobody would really question it. she'd have to stifle any bubbling rage at the mention of him. seeing his face a lot, nobody could blame her if she eventually lashed out; especially at the inevitable manipulation tactics he would use on pamela. ]

( the anxious pace pamela was hurling herself at finally seemed to calm, as any and all energy she was expelling before in her nervous tittering ceased and she took a breather. finally, a seemingly professional and friendly demeanor made itself known as she smiled faintly at her new dorm mate. raising an eyebrow, there was a relieved sigh as she looked at the stack of studying material she had. )
well, barbara, at least if we have any questions, we can ask each other, huh?
you wouldn't mind tagging along as my lab partner sometime, would you? no one i know is majoring in the same area as me.
( a bashful smile; it was hard to get lab partners when you were fairly quiet and didn't take interest in social circles and parties all that easily. so far, this girl seemed to be perfectly fine and friendly - and beautiful. but she wasn't going to voice that, obviously. )

[if you only knew. a simple, yet telling thought, running through her mind at pamela's remark about gotham's crime rate. so. it's always been high. a good thing to know, but an unfortunate fact; maybe batman was more needed than anyone realized if that were the case. barbara seemed to smile at the mention of heading for coffee; the trip here had eviscerated her internal clock, the unique signature breaking through the fabric and underlay of time to traverse backwards throwing it completely out of whack. she'd gone through hundreds of different events at a time to get here; so a little caffeine could work out just as well to put it back in place. at least, till she had to come back. ]
oh, god i need some caffeine.
been tired all day honestly.
[ to barbara, it was so strange to see someone who she's used to fighting...be so sweet. and, apparently, shy if her initial introduction was anything to go by. but it was nice; with the added bonus of her being equally as beautiful and attractive as she was when embodying nature's wrath. it was refreshing, if anything though; she....wanted. desperately, to stop what she knew what would happen. she knew the consequences of if she did, but consequence be damned; at the least she'd be there for her, maybe even stop a villainous downfall. ]

sounds good, darling. i can point things out to you on campus on the way.
( with that, she exits through the dorm room door, only pausing to throw a small envelope holding barbara's own key to her before traipsing down the hallway. outside, the summer sun was still beating down on seattle, most students clad in shorts and t shirts or dresses. fall hadn't quite kicked in for the weather, at the very least. pamela gazed around, mostly intrigued by the gardens and the numerous flowers sprouting from them. a soft hum emitted from her lips. )
so, that's the main building over there. the science and technology building is on the other side of the campus, but there are underground tunnels connecting everything.
you know, for bad weather, instead of making everyone go out in the rain.

[ underground tunnels. it'd be a place where not many would be, especially during this time of year where the weather was temporarily mostly stable. i'll have to wiretap parts of it. she caught her own thought; lord, barbara had picked up some of bruce's thinking habits; plotting for every scenario. the life of a bat, one would suppose. hearing pamela point things out, so politely, yet with a kind of enthusiasm underlaying it. it made her feel comfortable really, a familiarity without the dangers. at least, for now, feeling affection at how she seemed mesmerized in a manner by the varying plant life and gardens present about the campus. her mind perked at the mention of the soy latte- another thing that was unchanged then? seemed she was, at the very least vegetarian even before everything went belly up. every detail, however small, was noted mentally; she had to do that really. ]
soy?
vegan, i'm guessing?
[ personally, barbara didn't care too much what food group the meal came from. if it was edible and tasted alright to her, she'd probably eat it; a good thing she picked up the intensive training/workout habits as a result. while she listened, she still felt herself unable to help but feel a gentle form of attraction; god, damnit she was beautiful. and bright. two qualities that barbara often seemed drawn to in someone. for a moment, in her head, she forgot that pam was a future villain; that she was one of the heroes who foiled her. for a moment, even if only one, she really felt like just a university student with another student, forming a decent relationship. god she wished it was more than a moment. ]

( for the moment, the red head was efficiently distracted, reading over something in a booth. sauntering up to her, the villainess slid in next to her, legs brushing against hers as she leaned in close, voice dulcet and enticing. were pheromones even truly necessary for this one? )

is that so? then he can help me.
or arrest me while i'm trying.

[ barbara had always abided by the no-kill rule; it made sense to her. be better than the ones you fight. but joker? god, if anyone made her come close to beating someone to death, it was that monster of a man. she had to be held back by bruce the first time she saw him after the jason todd incident, and even then, he was already a bloody pulp. a laughing bloody pulp, but one nonetheless. ]

( ivy was the exact opposite. she was aware that she was already quite the despicable person, referring to her many mass attacks and victims. killing the joker would probably make her better, if anything. the joker was the worst of the worst, scum of the earth that had no moral compass whatsoever. ivy, at least, had reasoning. it wasn't for fun. besides - she didn't torture people. ever. she could be good in some ways. )
maybe i'll let the bats do the honors instead. i'm just there to see him finally get what he deserves, that bastard.
arkham won't hold him.

( ivy nodded, seingly satisfied with the positive answer. joker was the most disgusting piece of trash in her book, and half of gotham's villains were affiliated with him. harley, too, was off limits when it came to her "puddin'", but when a half-dead harley showed up at her door the other night, it was a step too far. a hero was needed to help, and ivy wasn't about to use a bat signal. )
he almost killed her the other night. i have the intentions of ending his little parade as king.

girl's intuition.
barbara gonna try to kill for the first time
Thanks Ivy
[ some time ago, barbara had made a judgement call. a hard thought, trusted call. and what did it cost her? a long fight, a broken rib or two, and a significant portion of central gotham overrun with a lethal form of nature. the events after her call that led to this were hazy to her; but that was because of the shock, the fear. the mental shattering that she'd been forced to endure. she saw something good in ivy; god damnit she saw something in that greenhouse. what the hell happened to it? what happened to it to cause such calamity? batman was elsewhere in the city, making sure that the plants couldn't spread further than they had. if she knew bruce at all, she knew that he wasn't going to pin this on her. god no. he knew how the mind worked front to back, and the last thing barbara needed was scolding and blame for something like this. didn't help the fact she blamed herself for all of this. ]
[ she could barely speak. so many people now had lost their lives; and in her mind, it was all because of her own actions. barbara was on the verge of tears, of breaking down; but nothing came. instead all that came in place of these emotions within was anger. rage. she stood in the road, staring at the green carnage before her, before speaking. her voice wasn't entirely hers; it was cold. stinging. mad. [
i thought.
i thought you could be different.
[ her eyes seemed to glance towards the vixen; not filled with the bright, young kindness anymore. filled with an unmerciful rage instead. ]

( in all fairness, the villainess had truly done quite well at first in terms of behaving herself. ivy liked to believed that she had tried, and put effort into it, but to no avail - and it wasn't like anyone was going to believe that if she told them, anyways. it built up inside of her. god, it was like a monster trying to claw its way out of her lips, her fingertips, her mind alone. the force of nature wasn't one to take lightly, and ivy, for the second time, had repeated that mistake. one where she tried to conform into the norm of society. society wasn't kind to those who were the children of the earth. and she was terrible in return. let me have my wicked way with you, my darlings. )
( vaguely in the clouded state of her mind, she knew she had crossed a line that should have never existed in the first place: trust. the heroine had trusted her. bad guys weren't meant to be trusted, she should have known all along! ivy even forewarned her, told her that it was a dangerous decision to make. nevertheless, she ran free that fateful day. )
you were mistaken. you should never assume, darling. i told you.
can't you see that some things never change?
( fists clenched at her sides. the urge wasn't so bad anymore, now that half of gotham was effectively torn apart by greenery. she was in for a fight. )

[ barbara had followed most of the rules set in place by bruce to the letter; bending a few every now and then of course. but one rule, there was one oath she swore years ago she'd never break. she would not kill. following in the footsteps of the caped crusader, she took that same oath; but now, at having her now arguably misplaced trust betrayed, that oath was starting to shatter. so many things ran through her head, so many people. oh god. was her father okay? did he manage to escape the massive plant life that had assaulted gotham? police cars were strewn about amidst the chaos in the street, but she had no idea if her father was among the bodies. it hurt to think about that. it made her angry to think that he could've been killed. no. that he was even going to be hurt. ]
you're wrong about that you know.
something did change here.
[ her words, followed by a batarang thrown from her belt at sudden pace. normally she'd been taught to throw it in a specific way; every time it would strike with the method, it wouldn't dig into the skin with the sharp blades. instead it'd dent it just enough to cause pain, to incapacitate. that was out the window. now it would dig itself into ivy's leg, skin punctured by the sharp edges of the bat-shaped tool. ]
and unlucky for you, batman isn't here to restrain me.
[ a menacing stride began towards ivy, her facial expression fueled by hate, anger, and a cocktail of varying emotion. she'll die for this. her face was the same yet at the same time unrecognizable; ivy had just made a very, very dangerous enemy. ]

( the fwip of the batarang was audible before the blinding lights behind her eyes of pain. sharp, throbbing and shooting pain radiated through her leg. a lance down, and there was crimson amongst the green, a large gash torn across her calf. that was... new. a reality slammed against her as the menacing figure came closer: she could die right now. this wasn't the rule-abiding batgirl; this was a heroine tampered with one too many times. fear crept up her spine, but thrill went thrpugh her veins as a growl left her lips in response. )
is that how we're playing now, my darling? very well.
i don't need batsy to protect me from his little girl.
( vines swept in from all directions, razor sharp thorn that were, in no doubt, poisonous and meant to maim. the intentions here were clear: aim to kill. it was a battle of survival, and right now, it was unclear as to who would win. )

[ barbara felt a rush of adrenaline; she'd never fought like this before. never fought with such ferocity, such aggression, such pure rage. never fought with the sheer intent to kill the opponent. it was a new feeling to barbara; a new feeling to her entire mind and body. and by god, she liked it. she liked the adrenaline that pumped through her veins as she weaved through the vines and their lethal attempts, as she held batarangs in her hands and used the sharp edges to cut them down as they flew. a dance of death, black against green, a broken hero against a sadistic vixen. ]
[ it was as if she had been supercharged; the restraint of morality removed, her body moved faster and harder than any other villain had seen. bruce's training combined with an intent to kill was a dangerous combination against any ill-willed person who would dare tread too close to the waters. it was so in jason todd, prodigal son, and now it was found within barbara gordon, the unshackled. she dove through a trove of vines that made a stabbing motion, close enough to ivy to land a kick to her ribs. the force was hard enough to shatter bones. ]

( what egged on either woman wasn't the same motive. in barbara's case, it was pure rage, seeking to kill ivy in the (false) assumption it would make things better. batman didn't live with a guilty conscience, but if batgirl very well did conquer the vixen - a kill would change everything. even so, ivy moved fast, but the woman in black was seemingly faster. ivy could dodge, but not enough to prevent the hard blow to the ribs. pain caged her chest as the breath was knocked out of her, falling to the ground. )
( desperate measures so early in the battle seemed near. charms were turned up, pheromones releasing into the air to take the brunt of the rage off of the other red head. at least, the villainess hoped. she lifted herself off the ground quickly, pain shooting through her ribs. ivy, in this case, had been a slave to her own powers. and now it would probably cause her death. )
what happened to the holy grail of not killing?
( a rumble shook the ground as two plant monsters rose, towering above the heroine. )

[ the pheromones, normally, would work well upon barbara. she hadn't the willpower of bruce, who could resist them with no problem. but right now, her mind was far gone to the point where her body did intake the scents, and yet, the effects were none. she stood in front, staring up at the plant monsters. if she remembered the data right, ivy's nerves and feelings had a connection to the life forms she could create. every strike felt, every bit of pain she would feel as much as them. a small smile, not at all innocent, grew upon her face as she realized she didn't have to even lay a hand on the woman herself. she'd torture one of her precious creations. make her feel the pain and suffering of every single person she caused it to. ]
[ she ran up the first monstrosity, feet against the torso before jamming a batarang into its eye and tearing sideways to strike the other. she twisted the batarang initially, to really make it hurt, as she kicked herself off of the monstrosity. her utility belt had the grappling gun removed from it by barbara's hand, trigger pulling as the grapple shoved itself into the face of the other monster. she began to pull. hard. all to simply, slowly, remove the very "skin' from its body. this is how they felt. ]

( at furst, the vixen thought she had the upper hand - batman struggled with the monsters. however,a feeling if dread and horror descended upon her as she watched the expression and body language change on the heroine. no. don't you dare. and she did. the flurry of pain that came next... nearly all she could see was red, feel red, and registering crumpling to the ground, hands at her face and eyes in torturous agony. she was torturing her precious babies - her plants, the life given to them. her. )
( ivy didn't want this. didn't ask for it. never, ever would have condoned it on anyone else - it was her weight to bear her powers, and for a time, she thrived. now, and often, she drowned in the downsides. the pains. curled on the dirt in a ball, the red head was left with tears streaming down her face, any and all murderous intent dissipating. hoarse mutterings of it to stop were the only noises emitted, her plant monsters halting and standing like statues. gaea, she didn't ask for this. god, just make it end. i'm going to hell anyways. i'm sorry i can't fix what i am. )

[ she felt the blood of the beasts on her face and relished within it. barbara hadn't quite yet realized it, but she was becoming the same monster that she initially refused to believe ivy as being. unmerciful, brutal. morality removed from the equation that comprised her being. she was panting as she clipped the grappling gun to her belt, boots on the ground as she stepped toward ivy and stared down at her. her ears picked up the sound of ivy; pleas. begging. crying. for part of barbara, it sickened her to hear it all. why should she give mercy to someone who showed none to the humankind she had so willingly slaughtered? but yet, another part of her could feel it in her soul. she'd seen and heard these things before from so many different people; citizens, criminals who were mostly scared by her appearance and not her actions. her own family when bruised and beaten by villains. and now she heard it from arguably a highly powerful woman; the queen vixen of gotham, on the floor, curled up. and scared. ]
[ then it really started to sink in. oh god. oh, god. she was becoming the same thing that she swore she'd fight against. the worst part was, she had liked it up until this point. her expression changed from cold indifference to realization, and then to horror. this wasn't who she wanted to be. it wasn't who she was. it went against everything barbara had been raised on; torture was the act of the truly heinous. was she in that crowd? ]
[ she seemed to stumble back, batarang which was initially intended for the vixen's end falling to the ground, her following suite into a loose seated position, hands planted on the ground. she was afraid; not of ivy. but of herself. ]
oh, god i-
i didn't mean. oh my god.

( it wasn't the first time someone had committed what was considerd to be a heinous act to ivy, but this time, she figured she at least deserved it. that had been coming for her for a long time; but the thing was, even years and years after the first incident, she truly wasn't ready to deal with it now. arms caged around her legs and eyes squeezed shut, slowly, slowly, the sharp agony faded, only leaving a lasting ache and sting. she waited for the end: would it be instantaneous? or would she be left writhing? never had she initially believed in a moment that she was going to meet her end. nothing came. the sounds of batgirl struggling with what she had just done came instead. her eyes opened, flickering to see the heroine on the ground, and the lack of greenery in gotham. everything had returned to the ground - it was gone. )
( the vixen reached over slowly, hands shaking as she took the handcuffs from barbara's belt. the usual calls of nature had disappeared in her head, only leaving a very, very rattled pamela. clamping them around her wrists, she only said one thing, not meeting her eyes. they gave the words that ivy had undoubtedly spoken before, after being taken advantage of and tortured by another.)
it's fine. i deserved it.
( her gaze pierced the ground as she reached up, seiping at the dirt and grime at her face. the power figure was gone - a scared and vacant red head on the ground was left instead. she continued, quieter, fear manifesting in not meeting batgirl's gaze. )

[ for the first time in her life, she was afraid of herself. what she'd done, the acts she committed here; she was afraid of, and disgusted with herself. for bringing the pain that could be distributed to 100 people to a single woman. and hearing her say these words, self-blame, it only broke her heart. she'd heard the phrasings before, again from so many others. but to hear her say it after she had just practically tortured her and nearly killed her; it put nearly everything into perspective. barbara was shaking quite violently, and on the verge of crying. she'd just defiled morality itself with her actions. ]
no. no no i.
nobody deserves that. oh god nobody deserves that.
[ she was adamant about that view; nobody, no matter what their actions, deserved the kind of hell barbara had just unleashed upon ivy only seconds ago. it was nearly impossible to pick the thoughts that ran through her mind as a result of this. only one, however, seemed to be consistent. you don't deserve that cowl. the bat, to bruce, and in gotham, was supposed to represent justice and righteousness. mercy to the innocent. if anything, barbara had twisted justice beyond recognition; and she could hear it in ivy's voice. fear. fear. ivy, for as long as barbara had known her, wasn't one to scare easily. but she was quiet, and afraid. of her. she didn't care if her identity was compromised to ivy; it was better if she removed this cowl in her eyes. she grasped at it, and forcefully removed it from her own head, tossing it on the ground beside her. her face revealed. ]

[ it was clear that if ivy's previous, blinded slaughter of innocents didn't break barbara, the reaction barbara had to it along with subsequently nearly killing her definitely did. it wasn't in her nature; more importantly, it wasn't in who bruce had taught her and helped her to be. she seemed to become visibly shaken at looking at the cowl again. she was thoroughly, completely convinced she no longer deserved it; members of the family who donned the cowl and cape weren't supposed to kill. or even attempt it. it was like a silent, family oath; jason todd was an exception, as while he was part of the family, he certainly had no real fondness for bruce or his oaths. it couldn't be bared to break relations with him; he'd been through too much. abandoning him over killing wasn't an option at that point. barbara, however; she broke this vow by not only nearly murdering ivy, but deliberately torturing her to make her feel as much pain as possible. disgusting, in barbara's eyes. she seemed to shake her head as a response, traumatized with only her own actions to blame. ]
