I would check the codex, if I recall the veteran squad upgrades (total) differs from the number of options for the platoon.

Veterans and Platoons have different weapon options in terms of how many specials they can take.

I see. I think i want to arm an infantry platoon with grenade launchers and anything that dose wonders in ranged combat. Do you recomend Vetrens in chimaras with flamers and meltas?

I like running 1 Flamer, 1 Heavy Flamer and 1 Melta in my squads. However I'm not sure if they still have access to the heavy flamer in the new book.
