I'm doing pretty well. I graduated in May and I'm taking a year off to save up money before grad school. The break is nice, hah.

Yeah, I transferred to a film school in southern california majoring in digital arts. Still got ~2 years left until I graduate, since I took some time off after high school.

Grats on graduating! Must be nice not having to head back to school in the coming weeks. I wish summer didn't go by so fast, you know?

Thanks! It's definitely cool to have a break but it's also gonna be hella weird since I'm like the only person I know here that isn't currently a student, hah. But that's okay, I'm focusing on a bunch of writing projects that I've been neglecting cos of school, and it's nice not to have to stress over grades and papers and stuff.

I was just wondering if there were any insightful tips, prompts, or ways of thinking. As I've mentioned my creativity is at a low point due to my Thesis work, but this Flash Lit concept seems to have the potential to reinvigorate certain creative juices, y'know? It seems to lack the intimidation of a long stream-of-consciousness free write while retaining a lot of the inspiring freedom.

Ah, okay. I'll see what I can do! Actually, for my final portfolio for the flash fiction class I'm in, we have to write a 500-word essay about "how to write a short short story." I mean, I'll probably do a separate journal or something about this, since some people seem interested and I'd be happy to share my experiences, but it would also be really helpful for me in trying to figure out what to do with that last essay.

But, you're right. Flash is an awesome way to get back in the grove, especially if you've fallen out because you're drained/busy with other things. Since the pieces are so short, they don't actually require that much time input. In my opinion they're about as tough as writing any other story, short or long, but you don't have to dedicate as much time. And you're also right about lacking intimidation. There's a lot of freedom with flash in that if you end up hating it afterword, it's only like 500 words, so you aren't as pressured to work it to death and make it work. It's a lot easier to let go of a 500-word story that doesn't work than something much longer. Plus, I find that people are more willing to hang around for a shorter story than something long, which they'll just put down if it gets boring or something.

Ahh, this comment really got away from me. Clearly I'm interested in the subject!
