Nope, sorry! I still have 300 of last year's left I'm trying to get rid of Turns out I'm not a very good salesperson! Check out [link] though, they've put together a real nice one to benefit tsunami victims in Japan!

Hi! I noticed your ad for the calendar on cosplay.com. Please tell me what causes are being donated to before I make a purchase!

Also, do you have any tips for sewing? >_< I am doing my first cosplay ever (Chun-Li) and have NO clue whatever as to how to sew/make/paint/whatev the gold curls and edging on her costume. I would also like to do Titania or Tanith from Fire Emblem, but the same problem arises.

Thank you for your time!

Hi! I'm glad you saw the ad, it was just put up! And I'm glad you're interested in the calendar. As you already mentioned you saw, a percentage of the proceeds are going to Room to Read. It's a great organization, and many of the world's problems could be solved with more education for all.

As for sewing, particularly gold curly things, I feel your pain >< My favorite series is Kaleido Star, and its costumes are COVERED in gold curly things and edging! For my most recent one [link] , I just used some shiny gold woven trim I found at the fabric store for most of the edging. I got the wide version that had a fold, attached the trim to the fabric edges so that it folded over to the back side, and stitched straight through (so basically, the edging was on both sides. The fold helped keep it straight and even). Every time I had to cut it, I had to use Fray Check on it immediately and let it dry, otherwise it would start to unravel. But then the costume had some gold curly things on the lapel area, so I ended up following this tutorial ( [link] )and making them out of hot glue on foam (thought I found my paint didn't adhere to the glue very well). This is probably a good option for the Fire Emblem characters, but the hot glue does take some practice to get good results. You might even just use painted foam by itself.

But for Chun Li the gold things are less defined/3D. You might want to just look at some other cosplayers and see how it looks like they did it It looks like some people have tried cutting out gold satin/shiny material in the right shapes and stitching it right onto the outfit. You have to be careful with what fabric you use though, or it might start to fray/ravel, or look raw and unfinished if just stitched on.

Probably the BEST option I've seen is *daydreamernessa 's piece for WCS, Diao Chan. She says all her gold curly pieces were done with gold vinyl cut into the right shapes, and then attached with heatnbond. You can see her full costume info here: [link] I think this is the best option because it looks clean, and vinyl won't fray when it is cut, so there is no need to hem or stitch or anything.

There's also satin-stitch embroidery, like here [link] and here [link] but this is certainly the most time-consuming option

Thanks for the questions and good luck!

Oh wow! I would have never considered the gold vinyl. That's a clever idea and good one for me to consider.

Actually, for the armor, I've been using this tutorial [link] and instead of fabric paint, using the hotglue as suggested on this tutorial site. I will probably have to buy some edging, since the satin I have wood really begin to ravel if cut that much.

Thank you for the information! I will definitely check out the links included.

I just found your website, CausePlay.org. I'm so glad to see there are others interested in giving back! My friends and I recently started CosplayforaCure.org. We're starting off with the Boston Relay for Life, all dressed in cosplay.

Thank you!

Thanks so much for you message! I had heard about Cosplay for a Cure before and there is a link to your page on Causeplay.org links page. If you have a small badge (maybe 200px by 200px) I could put it on the front page!

I think your project is awesome! Cosplay really draws peoples' attention, so it's perfect for an event like Relay for Life. You might even get some local news coverage!

Thanks for visiting the site, and be sure to check out the Cosplay Calendar for Charity [link]

Thanks!
