I'm way into photography now and figured I'd say what's up!

Various places really. It depends on what I find when I reach an area. It will be a car trip for the summer driving to various national parks, starting in ND then to SD, WY, CA, OR, and then finally WA. I also may do a trip out to an island my grandmother has a house on off the coast of Portland Maine. I'm going to make a blog for it over at: [link] Until then it will cover Colorado locations.

SO! We're sitting there... last night doing Jenna's family's Christmas. Her sister gets a call and she's says after hanging up "omg I forgot later tonight I have plans in Lincoln!"
"Oh yeah, what's going on there?"
"I forgot I'm going to The Faint. They're a band. Have you guys ever heard of them? They're kind of indy elect.."
Me: (-_-) <--- this face, more than ever in my entire life.

Is there a way I can create custom size canvases w/o shelling $100 for a roll of canvas? I'm probably going to be using acrylic, so do I need canvas, or is there some other cheaper material I can use to create some 'canvases' w/o canvas.
And don't say cardboard... for peeing in the shower...

hmm, there's plenty of fabrics available, but i think getting the surface stretched and then firm enough might be more difficult.
you would have to make sure to treat the surface first with multiple layers of gesso.
are you building it all yourself?

RadAdam In reply to piratejack [2009-04-04 14:33:36 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I am. I built that last one myself and it did have a little slack, but if I got a staple gun it would be fine.
What is gesso?
What if I used just a plain white cotton that had a little stretch to it? The fabric in the last painting was cotton w/ a fairly low thread count.

piratejack In reply to RadAdam [2009-04-07 18:35:40 +0000 UTC]
yeah try the cotton.. but use gesso, its almost like white paint. you can ask for it. it will give you a firmer surface to paint on as well as help the paint adhere to the cotton.

Alright I read a bunch about gesso. I learned that I can apply it to wood and not have to worry about fabric.
And apparently my brother in graphics design says I'm a n00b for not knowing what gesso is. >.<
I think this will work... thanks ^_^

Hey Pjizzle. I think I'm going to continue my progress with painting and paint some stuff along the same lines as my last one.
I was wondering where you kids get your supplies. In Lincoln I always went to a local store (Gomez) instead of Dick Blick and was wondering if you know of any place like that with similar pricing to DB.
Thanks bro. Hit me up on steam sometime please, as I have a couple other qs for you.
