I think the secret is to look for your mistakes & try and fix them ((I experiment a lot, until I find something I like)

It does suck, it makes you feel like your progressed but in a bad way... Well to me it's like that.
Looking for my mistakes? There's too many and usually when I finish a picture I don't plan on trying to retouch it

Oh, no I meant while you sketch! If you fix mistakes on the sketch before doing anything else you'll be a lot happier with it, I promise!

I draw a rough sketch then a more body form project, then an outline, a duplicate of the outline to fill in the colors
then add any other details

I usually just draw below it or on top of it, depends on the type

It just makes it go faster because then I can use the fill bucket and fill in any missing corners. The only drawback is it thickens the outlines

If you don't like the lines getting thicker I suggest doing kinda an in-between to our two methods
like kinda outline it in the colour you want and use the bucket on that so they're not so thick should work pretty well!

most of the time I just deal with it, other times I just use s thin pencil/ pen tool so when I duplicate it, it looks normal

Personally, I draw in thin lines but I really respect anyone who draws w thick lines because my god I can't do it
