Mmmkay, I'm too lazy to do this how I was before. So, simple styles is the go from now on.
3102 deviants viewed + 50 of the said deviants watched = You are one of the 50.
Congratulations.

Kai,
I don't think you need to bother yourself with such questions, looks like you got the whole painting thing down, pretty darn good. You do bring up some good points. I wish I was thinking like you when I was 17/18 years old. I only came to understand and apprieciate painting as much as I do now only two years ago. before that it was just in the genes I guess.
Indeed, at it heart, painting is light and colour and the use of this effects the mood, atmosphere etc of a peice. The beige/yellow light you speak of would make a white surface the colour of the light, unles you wanted to go for a more over exposed look(like it was a camera shot). This would make your subjects bolder and more dominant, being that the highlights are whiter than they would normally be.
The other, opposite colours you mentioned are based on environment and atmosphere. For instance, in my berkyism piece the other side of the craft is blue because it's reflecting the sky colour. If it was, say, above a desert surface it would also reflect that yellow sand colour depending on the overall light in the scene.
As for the type of surface, wether it be metallic, plastic or concrete, depends mainly on the specular value of the surface. 3D programs thought me a lot about this. metal and glass have a very high specular level so the light they reflect will be very sharp and bold. Something made of cloth say would not reflect the light as much and be subdued. Of course the type of light depends as well, such as it position brightness and wether it's diffused or not, will effect how sharp highlights will be.
But I'm sure you know all this already
You're very perceptive, and observant, continue your research and study of your own work and others as I do everyday and let's hope we both become masters of painting.
thanks for the note bro, and no stress, painting is the most wonderful thing. Cherish your gift!

heya... do u know how light affects a surface? colour wise, that is. its true what you said about charascuro.. it does help elevate depth... (i was mistaken, thinkign what u meant is applyign black to ALL shadow)
recently i had to more or less redo " Falling Fantasies" because i felt there was a lack of depth in the painting.. though i pushed on the colours side, i was so afraid they would clash that i failed to 'hash' the work and check just how deep it could actually be. playing with the levels and boosting the contrast in ps was done, and i think the realism got much better, and the colours started to expand more, esp into combinations i would never use... i guess tahts 'realism' for me, huh..
the questions are:
-how does one know how much to use, and when to stop? bold wit colours is one thing. Knowledge of how to use (esp in harmony) is another.
-if a beige/yellow light strikes a whiet surface.. depending on how reflective it is.. it should more or less ahve a slight tinge of the parent light colour. its shadow should have a sorta... 'negative' colour (from observation) (maybe blue?) ???depending on the other colours around the object. if it strikes a matte surface (which is unlikely sice without refraction/reflec. your eyes dont pick up the object. u jsut see black.) what happens?
-if the same colour hits BLACK. what happens? in easier terms.. what happens if your beige/yellow light touches and smothers over a darker and darker value... what then?
grrr im going nuts over this >_<
thanks
kai

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?
What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire deviant life, that there's something wrong with the story. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
You take the blue pill, the story ends. Your browser closes and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I offer only the truth, nothing more.
Take: The Red Pill
Take: The Blue Pill
spyed, nobody has ever done this before.
I know. That's why it's going to work.

I got my Art test in the mail the other day. Have you ever seen that commercial with that suit-wearing douchebag who says "Do you Like Painting and Drawing? Have you ever considered a career as a professional artist?" - I sent away for one and got it in the mail about three weeks later (so long I forgot I wanted it). I'm working on possibly the most disgusting and disturbing series of pictures I have ever imagined for the test right now. They will love me many times bum-style.
P.S. Did you ever notice how gay deviantart is? Did you ever notice that everyone and their fucking brother likes to draw robo-japanese-furry characters in bathing suits? What the fuck is up with that? Fuck shit fuck shit. Shit fuck shit.
P.P.S. One time I saw Jordan holding a little boy's hand. He was dressed in a sailor suit but the best part is - he didn't even know his name! OH HA HA! This funny is never-ending! Shame on you turbo mega style!
Yes, but for now, I will vaporize. Turbo style to the limit!!!

r : coal car
ah yes, the coal car. the coal car is what really keeps the train going. now i'm going to let you in on a little secret, i told the G car (the gas car) that they kept the train running on gas, but this my friends, this simply is not true. i mean who keeps a train running on gas? that's just damned inefficient, and an accident just waiting to happen. coal on the other hand, coal is something you can work with! now get to shoveling more coal into the fire!
