From another late-night-Skaven-uploader to another, it was nice to have a drop-by. Good job on the warlord. I'm severely looking for inspiration, still, on mine.

Skreet's color scheme was an attempt at dirty greens.
I figured since the Rats seem to adore warpstone, everything will be green.
And reds are the complements to greens, and golds go well with green as well. So I took those simple ideas and ran with them.
I will be uploading Enginner Ratchitt shortly, and you can see how far I ran with the red/green/gold theme.

Weird, I was actually thinking about a red scheme for my warlords, even though it's quite a challenging color to work it. Did some green for my clannies, which seemed nice, but thought that red looked well on chaos warriors, and since the warlord is about as close as we get to an armored character?... It seemed logical. Now that I have two of them, I imagine I'll try both, really. Only thing I know is that I will steer clear of "pure metal color" as it tends to look so insanely boring. And it was most of what I did when I painted my WoC-army :]
I will look forward to the engineer, as I haven't done those either. I think I'll try and make as many clan-rats before I go insane and have to start on the important stuff : P

With the metal, to try and keep it less "metal-y" and still not just a flat color, I took mithril silver and washed it heavily with gryphonne sepia, ogryn flesh, and devlan mud. it dulled down the aluminum chips in the paint, so it didn't sparkle, and it gave a used, dirty, weathered look to the armour.
I learned that effect from an award-winning painter that frequents the hobby center.

It's easier if I just throw in one single reply here, I think. I'm starting to get confused, a bit : P
I'd really like to have the name of that paint you mention for warpstones. Not right now, if you have to do massive nerd-digging for it, but should you be able to do so, some time, I'd be greatly appreciated. Mostly I've been combining the classic Scorpion Green with green washes, and drybrushing pure SG on the surrounding areas. From afar it looks okay, but I'd always like a bit more...punch, to it.
Washing is, in my opinion, mandatory on metallic paints. They simple become way too dull without it. Even a quickshader (yes, I went there) can do a great difference. I don't really use it that much more, though, as it totally ruined my ratling-gun. For which I will never forgive.
Some people actually swear to rat-ogres, but I suppose I'd have played something else if I wanted big, tough guys. In a games of Ogre Kingdoms vs. Skaven, we only went for 2k points, but still, after he'd deployed, he looked at my side which was utterly black with minis and mumbled "Not good..."
That's one of the reasons I really love this army : )

I once swore I would never again play or paint a swarm army (I started with tyranids...) but I love overwhelming an enemy (like ogres) with floods of "men" to soak up wounds and muck up combat with so many attacks. great fun!

Actually I've never tried 40k
Been tempted, but not a single soul to play with here. About the same with blood-bowl.
Atm. I'm considering my third army. Went mostly for dwarves, in the beginning, but I really find their way of playing quite boring. So it's between Dark Elves and Orc'n'goblins now.

orcs and goblins are a lot of fun to watch.
I saw a whole bunch of fanatics take down a high elf dragon. that was a lot of fun.
Just picturing a bunch of gibbering, giggling little green things pulling on, hanging off of, and weighing down a dragon with a prince a top it.

I watched something similar with ONG vs. dorfs
Everything except Grimgor Ironhide and two goblin units was blown to pieces once the orcs made it through, they released the fanatics, who instantly began smashing the warmachine-hell asunder. With Grimgor beautifully dodging in between them, tearing up everything. I almost had this vision of him carrying a boomblaster with "Can't touch this!" : )
Plus, they get a new armybook next, I've heard
