# About me

Born in Brooklyn, New York, VJ Comando has grown to become a seasoned professional artist. His body of work is comprised of digital paintings that explore the area where the human condition and technology overlap, often in quasi-surreal scenes that juxtapose the world of old and the impending future in often witty and nightmarish scenarios. He addresses the complexities of these narratives with a sensitive consideration towards light and color and uses gestural graffiti tag-based brush strokes in these works.
VJ is a graduate of School of Visual Arts, studying illustration and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998. He was selected for the New York Art Directors Club exhibition in that year and went on to attend Milton Glaser’s Graphic Design Summer program in 2000. He went on to have an active career in animated television programming, working as a color designer and supervisor for such notable companies as Nickelodeon, Scholastic, Animagic and Curious Pictures, to name a few. He has also worked in video game and web-based design.
Consequently, his experience as a designer often influences his digital painting, his wide range of interests adding to the subtlety, intricacy and multi-layered meaning in his work. VJ Comando remains an in-demand freelance artist to this day, working primarily as a digital designer, and exhibits his own work online, selling his digital paintings to a growing clientele in and around New York City.
