Well..you can't request me to give you a critique on "Diedre" for variety of reasons..firstly- I have very little knowledge about Celtic culture...secondly...I've never heard about Diedre..thirdly...English is not my primary language...but lastly& most importantly I obviously favour your work
However...this went well - story is well researched & you carry the reader off smoothly into enchanted world of ancient prophecies love betrayal & revenge...I was hooked! The only thing you probably should've paid more attention to was the actual relationship between Diedre & her husband...reader gets a very clear picture of the old kings twisted last for fair maiden ...its well- executed...old loyal nurse- I get her as well- her loyalty & love...but not Diedres belowed husband cuz you kind of jammed their whole never ending love into one sentence describing how they fall in love...no not how they fell in love but how Diedre manipulated Saoirse to take huge risks because of her!
It felt like a bit of the hiccup during drinking smooth perfectly roasted cocoa
I am sure you'll get my example here
Otherwise- no complaints...beautiful as usual & very well researched

Now that you mention it, I see what you mean. I didn't really spend enough on the love between the heroine and hero. But I'm glad that you like the rest of it!

I think you rock big time & also think this was ONE story I've never heard about!!! Speaking about macabre...She makes Jeff Dahmer look like a first grader!!! Oh God... Erzbeth Bathory is the only villain to stay anywhere close to her!! How city come there is no books/ movies about her?? Please send some useful links if I've got them+ I am watching you closely

Although since I wrote and posted this poem, I did research into the subject and realized that the story of Enriqueta Martí has been told by the tabloids rather than by the facts of the case; historian Elsa Plaza definitely explored this in her book "El Cielo Bajo los Pies" ("The Sky Underfoot"), written entirely en español.

I have since learned more about the historical context behind the case and have found that the old folk beliefs of Spain, the issues of the day, the sexism of the day, and so many other factors have warped what actually happened into this sensationalized tabloid fodder. Martí admitted that she had prostituted at least one young woman but denied that she'd ever killed any human. She actually begged with other women and their children and operated a secret abortion clinic and maternity ward for women who were not in a position to support another child (she actually obtained Angelita by this means, through her husband's widowed sister)

I actually incorporated this information on the Wikipedia entry about Martí. It's fascinating, really, just how one-sided that the "official" story is. The same is true of Erzsebet Bathory; the book "The Infamous Lady" by Kimberly Craft explores the evidence and historical context behind the myth of Erzsebet Bathory. She is clearly hardly innocent of murder, but she was a complicated woman in a misogynist society who refused to be confined because of her sex. Even though she was denied, she tirelessly petitioned to testify at her own trial.

The one female serial killer who truly seems sadistic would be Russian noblewoman Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova (1730-1801), who was widowed at 26 years and began torturing and killing the peasant women and peasant girls on her estate. At first the complaints of her serfs were ignored or resulted in their punishment, because she was a powerful woman, well-connected to the court. But by 1762, authorities could no longer ignore the protests of the victim's families. Her punishment of life imprisonment seems like a slap on the wrist in my opinion.

Although I have to admit I have nothing to offer in terms of useful info here...I know that ancient beliefs of multiple cultures involve blood& flesh of young children used in rituals, beauty regime etcetcetc...its just I've never heard of Enriqueta AND to my biggest shame( being Russian n all ) Saltykovas name vaguely rings the bell but once I've heard it( from u) I'll definitely read more about it...the trouble is- I am re- reading " Stranger beside me" than I have "3,096 days" by Natasha Kampusch and than....**** laughs maniacally, rubs hands**** I've got about3 books " Bodies in the barrels"( Australian crime generally IS boring and IS about gains of all sorts...) And than...I've got about 18 books to go by Stephen King( before I die...MUST read all of his books)... So Enriquetta Marti+ Darya( its actually Daria ARE on my list in near future!!! P.S. thank god modern smartphone translate !!! When I saw Barcelona news page I was"WTF??? But its readable!!!"... Thank you roayally for most interesting links...promise I'll get to them!! Xxx
