Hello and welcome to my little html tutorial. I've been working with html codes for a couple of years and I'm going to teach you what I know about using some basic html on deviantART. This won't make you a html expert or something and I'm not an expert myself but it will give just enough knowledge to make your journals, comments, news articles and other neat and lovely looking.
deviantART actually has FAQs about html but I still wanted to do this because they look a bit unorganized, in my opinion. Also, why would you want to look for those FAQs when you can just open this news article where you have everything in one place?
You may already know some of these, but I hope you'll find at least something helpful in this news article.

Some basic html

This html code will work in: journal entries, group blogs, comments, artist's commen  Directions for icon useA LOT of people have been asking me on how to use icons,
so here are directions that everyone can look at:
To use an icon,
here's the format:
:icon*username: (just without the star)
For instance, to use my icon,
I'd write :icon*iloveyouplz:, with no star.
When I take out the star, it looks like this:

1.) Ok step one find a gif of your choice (i usually look them up on google and on tumblr)
2.) Copy the image address (you do this by right clicking the gif and click on "copy image address")
3.) then when your on your journal put this address in
< img src="filename.gif" alt="alternative text" width=X height=Y >
(i put spaces in-between < and > so you can see the address just make sure you get rid of the spaces)  
4.) where it says "filename.gif" put in the image address and with x and y put in the size you want (i usually use 300 or 200 for x and 200 or 100 for y)
  
5.) AND NOW YOU HAVE WONDERFUL GIFS FOR YOU JOURNAL!!!!!

2. I use photoshop - as already said, I'm still a newbie and I learn as I go, that's why each next picture is a little different (The other part of this profile, Noxi, is using a tablet, she started with ArtRage but now she too uses mostly PS) I see a lot of recommendation for Sai; I haven't tried it yet but I would recommend SAI for anime styled art since it was designed especially for that, while Photoshop was intended as photo-editing software.

3. Badges are just for fun - some (like me) simply like collecting them and spread them around, since I see it as a little gift that demands nothing in return. Otherwise they don't serve any specific purpose.
