Im going next summer for 2 months. 9th june to 4th august. Im only planning on bringing about €1500 to spend for the time and i think that will be enough for myself. About the passport, i think the U.S can stay in japan for 90 days with just your passport, no visa. Is the 4K just for spending or for the whole trip?? either way it should be enough id say. hope this helps

Not that much depending on what expensive is to you.
The average flight from new york would set you back about $800 i think(€900 in my case). Then depending on how long you are going for the price of the hostels will vary. On average for 2 weeks in tokyo would set you back about $250 for 14 nights in a hostel. But day to day is cheap enough to be honest. Ive been there twice now and i got by on around €900($1300) spending money
