deferred for early decision is like being wait-listed. they roll deferred people to be reviewed again for regular decision. it means, maybe we like you but we want to see if there's anything better out there and then we'll accept/reject you.

a lot of people i know got deferred because of connections w/ cooper but some people were rejected (they say that 20% of ED applicants get deferred)
