Description Some people are asking me how I do my paintings .
Well , this is impossible to explain in a note or comments .
so , I made this simple steps to try to illustrate how I usually work.
As I work with two basic brushes , I am sure you can do the same on older versions of Photoshop or other programs like SAI .

Download it for full res . take a look on the images , excuse my grammar errors , and most important , Practice , ha ha .

what do you mean by using the pick color to blend the volumes? i use gimp and id love to learn how to paint like this if possible thanks

well , you use the pick color to choose an intermediate color of the two you are trying to blend.
This will work on any software , but there is the need to use a graphic tablet for a smooth painting .

Though the question is; do you get rid of the initial lines when nearing the end of a painting, or do you somehow blend them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

14-bis In reply to Sindergosa [2012-01-26 14:18:09 +0000 UTC]

if you still can see the line on the final image is because its on a separated layer.
sometimes , when I want a more painting look , I paint over it and blend it with the colors.

Sindergosa In reply to 14-bis [2012-01-26 16:34:19 +0000 UTC]

So do you have to delete the layer with the lines? (I apologize for seeming like a bother. The digital field is a new one to me. )

Basic is the key work here, I could almost do this on paint if I wanted to. I appreciate the detailed tutorial and it's nice to see that it's not all magic. I can learn too, even if I am merely mortal lol.

Love your work. I've seen another tutorial/walkthrough of yours where the approach was to create a shadow layer that you applied over flat colors. I realise layers make fixes and modifications easier to deal with (probably faster to do, too) and that picking colors like you do above here create better variations in saturation for the shading. I'm just wondering if your approach has changed over time or if you have different approaches depending on the piece.

For example, do you use the method explained here for personnal work and keep the layered approach for commisions? Does it just depend on the look you want to achieve? Or is it a how-much-time-your-willing-to-dedicate-to-finishing-a-piece thing?

14-bis In reply to PRodrigue [2011-08-13 17:29:20 +0000 UTC]

the use of several layers , on my case , depends of the ilustration.
sometimes I like to keep it simple and sometimes with more layers , I have more flexibility.

Excelent Fern, this is very helpful and pretty clear as well
The original linework, haves to be behind the colors or all over it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

14-bis In reply to DanOblong [2011-08-13 00:54:26 +0000 UTC]

its always on top .
unless you want to give the painting a more realistic look .
them you can delete it , or merge it with the colors .
