Description
Happy Earth Day! (I hope I made it to most time zones uh) Sorry for the tl;dr, but I would really appreciate it if you can spare 5 minutes of your time to read this..Earth Day Project
April 2011: Red Crowned Crane
First of all, I’d like to say that this is inspired by all the nameless people who are doing their best to help the planet, without asking for anything in return. And every creature we share our beautiful planet with. Because as canaries are to a coalmine, animals are to Earth; they are indicators of how much damage our home is suffering. And some of them, like the lion or the Bold Eagle, are important to us for their significant in our culture. Look around you, there is probably a panda plushie, or a shirt with a tiger print hidden somewhere in your room. What would happen to us if they all disappeared?
This project is created to raise awareness of how much we, humans, are connected to nature. It will begin on Earth Day, 2011, and end on Earth Day, 2012.
And I’d really appreciate your help:
1) Spread the word!
Chances are, you are a lot more convincing to your friends and family than I am. So please show them that we are connected to all creations of Mother Nature, just as we are, to each other. And most importantly, let them know that every small deed –whether it be fixing a leaking faucet, or switching to a more energy-efficient light bulb – counts!
2) Make a Suggestion
Because, I want to know which animals you guys connect with the most. Each month, I will announce a location and if you can, please suggest to me a species you would like to see! This is no way mandatory and please don’t feel pressured, I just think it’d be nice to include different people’s likes instead of just my own.
In fact, this starts now :- )
Next month’s location would be the lovely Continent, Australia. Please leave a comment here with the name of the animal/plant you would like to see. Looking forward to reading them!
Thank you for reading <3
And to my super awesome coolio wathers:
I’ve never really done anything so long term, so please lend me the strength to keep going. Thank you so so much for supporting me ;;
personal notes:
I have a midterm riigghhhtt about now so I have to run, therefore please excuse any typo/Engrish. I’ll proofread this when I come back~
I'm also going uploaded the original image to my sketch blog, because dA doesn’t take 10MB very well.

I'm glad you weren't offended. i was worried that you wouldn't take my critique as serious since my artwork isn't as good as yours.

This piece you did is truly amazing and beautiful in all regards and a lovely piece for any day and time of the week but I do have to wonder with the somber looking pallete styling you used, how this ties into Earth day as much? It seems like such a cold and barren piece for a celebration of the beauty and bounty that the Earth holds in terms of color and wonderment unless I missed you were depicting the sadness the Earth feels from the mighty pollutants she is having to take onto her self each day.
I think this piece would have been more amazing with a slightly different composition. I think if you would have focused and turned (using our imaginary camera here) I would have put this as a head on shot of her facing the front with the crane more clearly visable in front of her, maybe her holding it and his neck careering around her neck a bit to show more of a relationship between the two.
I feel like the crane is there and she is there but the two are not particularly interacting that well together. The only way I really see them in the same space is the bits of hair that goes around the cranes body and the slight reflection in her eye. I see no real emotion on her face that the bird is even there by her. I think even her maybe reacting a bit on her face to the crane rubbing his face against her cheek like that.
Just think about if a crane put his head on your cheek, I think you would react a bit to that sensation with the soft feathers on your skin, even if just a little. That is really my own big cripe on the piece. Everything else about this is just wonderful and really fantastic. I just think with a bit of a different composition to it, this could have been another masterpiece from you.

You are so welcome!! Your piece was breathtaking but felt as if the two characters were somewhat placed on top of each other without much interaction. I love the work and hope to see something of a "sequel" to it soon! Haha

Oh my goodness! This is absolutely gorgeous!
I simply adore the way you did her face, and that expression is so adorable and peaceful...
The skin tones and red go perfectly together, and the contrast with the dark reddish-umber is truly beautiful. The crane is incorporated seamlessly into the piece as well <333
You did a marvelous job with this, and all for a wonderful cause! Truly lovely work! <3

This is gorgeous.
Anyway, for Australia, I would have to suggest my two favorite animals: the spiny anteater and the platypus. Yay for egg-laying mammals!
