Description
2DForeverI've had this one in my head for ages – someone fading into a mess of pixellation.
Did you know this year I've only done 6 images prior to this? I was pretty disgusted when I realised, so I went back to my to-do list of images I've wanted to do for ages. It's quite different to what I had in mind originally and I tried a few different approaches at it. In the end I found the most subtle pixellation worked the best.
To keep the hand-drawn feel I manually coloured in each pixel/block, rather than letting Photoshop do the work for me. It was really good fun actually!
This is based upon a life drawing sketch and, I must admit, I did start off using a photo reference of a friend for the face. It's not something I normally do as I don't want to lose any style for the sake of realism, but I toned it back somewhat and feel really happy with it. It's a happy medium between photo-realistic and my usual style.
Of course, when I say style it's just my drawing habits; not always a good thing.
Anyway, I'm really annoyed at myself for not drawing as much this year. I know the issue, I intend to resolve it...
Hope you like!

This is a really brilliant effect! I love the contrast of texture and the subtle fading that the exaggerated pixelization causes. This is stunning!

Thank you for such a nice comment! Feels like you're the only one who's appreciated the pixelling as it was intended

I really love clever colour play like that! I have no head for doing it myself, so I especially appreciate when someone else executes it so well!

The fading into pixels is neat. I think that the pixelation of the hair and not the breasts is a fun irony, especially in the dA community. Nice work on this one.

Haha, thanks - I never thought of it in a censorship way, but that takes another interesting angle on it!
Thanks for the kind comment

Perhaps this is "found meaning," sort of like junk gets put together into "found art"? (i.e. you can claim this was *totally* intentional later on...)

Haha - oh, um, yes, of course If I ever find myself needing to bullshit about this piece for whatever reason I'll have that as my ace up my sleeve!

That is a so nice image, it is like a 19th century portrait being done by a modern artist, past and present have met so well in that picture, with a usual touch of surrealism that is .
I hope we can have more than 6 pictures per year from you allthough these 6 are sufficient if we go with quality standarts and not quantity ones .
And from now on consider the ammount of your viewers being up by 1. ^^

Thank you for such kind words
I really like the way you described it as 19th century meets modern with a touch of surrealism - I've never really thought about it quite like that, so thank you.
Also, I aim to get much more than 6 images done next year! I promise!

Lovely work, you definately made the right call doing the pixels by hand.
I really like her expression, it's almost as if she's a digital version of a mermaid, disterbed on the shore she vanishes into sea wind and sea spray, only with this lovely creature it's the tides of pixels...

What a fantastic comment! I love peoples perception of my work - there's certainly no right or wrong answer, just loads of great ideas.
I can certainly see what you mean though; the intention was to essentially fade away into the pixels.
Thanks for a great comment

well to be honest, to ME it seems like her right eye (the eye on the left side of the image) seems a little larger than the other, or like if its opened up a little more... i just felt like the eyes weren't really matching.. her right eye was so perfect that i felt like the other had a slight imperfection... and i thought that maybe it needed a LITTLE more work or attention...
some people around here idolize you so much that they fear to tell you what else could have been done to the image. i think you did an excellent job, a lot better than i could have ever accomplished.i love the concept of the image... but i really couldn't help but notice the slight flaw which is entirely normal for any artist.
thanks for understanding, and I'm glad that you didn't take it in any offensive way
I'm glad there are talented artist such as your self that are wiling to hear what the fans have to say

Thanks, that helped - yeah I see what you mean, but I remember it seeming fairly accurate to the original reference... who knows, it does look a little off though.
And definitely no offence taken, I love constructive criticism - it's always great to receive well thought out comments like yours.
On another note, I really don't think people idolise me here Just another illustrator in the mass pile!

Love the clever idea : ) It turned out pretty damn cool!
It's been a slow year on the creative side indeed... I should get to making a to-do list to fuel the creativity on some of those slow evenings..

Slow evenings? This year has flown by for me! Doesn't really feel like it's happened at all to be honest! Hopefully next year will slow down to allow me to do some illustration...
Anyway, thanks for the kind words Hope you're doing well!

The year has flown by for me aswell, though I've had some evenings where I've mostly felt restless and ended up not being productive at all. Those could've been used for atleast some sketching hehe
I'll see ya around!

Thanks! The lighting was very basic, it's just what so happened to be on my original life drawing sketch - maybe the colours I used help bring it out a bit...
Either way, glad you like it!

this looks real good.. i love the natural hair look. but to be honest i think her right eye needs a lil more work.not judging yu wrong in any way, just a lil constructive critizism.

Thanks for the feedback! Which eye do you mean then, her right eye (on the left of the picture) or vice versa?? Also what in particular about the eye? Would love to know your thoughts

I think you are judging him wrong, at least according to your own standards for perfect right eyes.
That's OK.

I reckon that, with 'CONSTRUCTIVE' criticism comes also tips or suggestions on how to improve the flaw that you've found, not just pointing out what you think looks off. What would you call destructive criticism if not just plainly pointing out something that 'looks off' of 'could use more work'?
