Description
This is ~SteelFanged 's character, the half-orc assassin, "Daehkosa." [link]Now my picture of his character was actually sketched a few days BEFORE he drew/colored/submitted his version, which is why the designs don't exactly match up. (Especially with the colors--I went for the more traditional idea of half-orc skin coloring, and chose a green pallor. And instead of using regular black, I used a green-black for his hair.)
And his clothing may appear to be too gaudy, but I tend to picture most assassins as either scuzzy, or gentlemanly. Here I went for the sophisticated gentleman approach.
To quote Terry Pratchett on the subject of assassins:
"You can find your average, amateur killers on every street. They're mostly deranged or drunk or some poor woman who's had a hard day and the husband has raised his hand once too often and suddenly twenty years of frustration takes over. Killing a stranger without malice or satisfaction, other than the craftman's pride in a job well done, is such a rare talent that armies spend months trying to instill it into their young soldiers. Most people will shy away from killing people they haven't been introduced to."

I would love to see a bigger variety of shadows and lights. Start using more layers for different shadings and lightings - it'll make your pictures look more interesting!

Aye, lighting is something I'd really like to work on...it just seems like I never know where to start. Although now that I have my own copy of the graphic novel Tellos, I may use that to get some ideas for how shadows and lighting work.
But perhaps before undertaking such things, I may want to clean up my hard drive a bit...the GIMP has been moving very sluggishly since I'm running out of memory. (It turns out that cleaning up all my picture folders actually only gave me a little over 10 extra GBs.)

Judging from this drawing, I'm guessing that assassinating must be a very high-paying job!
I really like your decision to make the skin color green. It's such a wild contrast between the ogreish appearance and the fancy clothes.

I suppose it'd HAVE to be a high-paying job, considering the cost...
I'm glad you liked the contrast. I thought it made for a nice change to have an ogre appear rather sophisticated--it's a bit like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. He always looked so gentlemanly despite his ferocious appearance. (Well, okay, except for when he first encountered Belle...he needed a bit of refining then.)

I think what made the beast look gentlemanly was the cape. You just can't go wrong with a cape.

Green skin, that's cool. He looks like a real musketeer.

Thank you very much!
...Now I think I'm going to have to come up with a comic taking the classic musketeers theme and turning them all into half-orcs in a fantasy world. XDD
(That ought to toss some stereotypes on their heads!)

I like the light and careful coloring!
It may not look like my envisioning of Daehkosa, but it's still a great design, and if you don't mind, I think I want to use it as an alternate Daehkosa. I think if we were to just give him a purple, feather plume hat and perhaps a french accen, he'd make a very charming assassin! Although I think I'd miss his custom made cloak with the thirty throwing stars. Still, it could be an entertaining animated show someday!
Great job on the shading, and nice color choice. And awesome clothes design!

"Careful coloring"? Ha! There was nothing careful about it! XP
Thank you, though.
Still practicing with shading/highlighting, but each new picture brings me one step closer to satisfaction--and I'm glad you're okay with the clothing designs. (Although he COULD still have his custom-made cloak...I just didn't draw him with it because I wanted to show off his pose.) *along with his hair in its queue*
Perhaps the hat and French accent would be going too far...
(After all, why drop one clichΓ© to pick up another?)

Yeah...actually I meant CHEERFUL coloring. I'm not sure where that "careful" came from.
No, no, I had originally wanted to give him the hat, but decided it'd draw too much attention to someone who is trained in keeping a low profile.
But perhaps the accent IS going a bit too far.

Thank you very much!
Aye, not sure how "in-tune" I drew this character, but I was tired of the typical half-orc thugs, so I'm glad I went with the "Dandy Highwayman" approach.
However, I'm not sure how well-received my less-than-typical RPG notions will be when I run my first game for ~JNels and ~SteelFanged ! (Somehow *I partially blame a certain sideburned-nerd I've had to draw for a certain comic for a certain brother of mine* JNels has turned ME to the subject of pen&paper Role-Playing-Games.) I've...*gasp* become a nerd!
So we'll see what he has to say when I'm the gamemaster for their next Labyrinth Lord session. I foresee steampunk elements, orcish/goblinoid armies, abandoned dwarvish mines, and political intrigue. (Okay, that last is a lie.)
