Love this pic, it has a sort of surreal beauty to it, the fact it seems to be growing quite happily in a slate quarry and how the green really stands out against the grey.

Thanks! We found this tree by accident when we went up a bank to the right of Dali's Hole. Once at the top of the slope, you go through a tunnel then skirt round a bit of a drop then you come out and a huge pile of slate is in front of you. Look around above you because this tree is on one of the ledges.
Thanks for the faves

Your welcome I think I'm going to have a look for this next time me and my Hubby go to Dinorwic. Hope you do more pics of this quarry, I love it, everytime we go there we find something new, it's a place we'll never get bored of.

Yeah, it's different everytime because the weather is so changeable up there and there are so many different paths so you never know what you might come across.

I really adore this. That nature can overcome obstacles and grow just about anywhere and this proves it! People should be this way, unafraid to grow anywhere : )

Wow.
That is honestly amazing.
It looks almost magic, because of the contrast between the tree and the desolate greys of the cliff.
Fantastic...

Thanks so much for that enthusiastic reaction to the picture. It was an inspiring sight to see. It looked like a bansai tree against the backdrop of the massive slate sided surround. Thanks for faving it

wow, that's awesome! before I read the description I thought it was a bonsai tree, its surroundings dwarfed it so.

Brilliant picture. Like the fact there's no sky, so the cliff behind seems endless. Will have to try and find this place on the map

Thanks very much, it's one of my favourites too. It's worth a trip there because there is natural beauty amongst those man-made piles of slate. It is kind of a mecca for vertical climbers but also for the casual rambler who likes something a little different, it will definitely surprise you.

Heh. Working from home near Newtown (for a company in Brum) as a Flash game developer, but spending too much time exploring, procrastinating, and getting drunk currently. Ho hum

Yeah, the internet is definitely a bugger for wasting time but this site gives me a creative outlet which i don't get anywhere else so i spend more time here than i do anywhere else on the internet.

Dinorwic is such a tiny place but the nearest town is Llanberis. You can see the slate quarry on Google maps.

Yeah, I can see it on the Multimap/OS option, definitely looks a good place to explore (and the surrounding area - plenty of streams and lakes up higher)

Thanks very much! It was in the Dinorwig slate mines in Wales and we found it when we walked through a few tunnels and came out the other end to find this and a whole lot of slate. It's one of my favourite shots too because it's so unlikely and random.
