Drew this in '06. It was in my portfolio, which has been temporarily displaced.I'm kind of scared that I will never see this drawing in person again.

I really like what you have so far. I think, just from experience, you should go back in with a b-pencil (maybe a 5, 6, 7, or 8 B) and darken up some of the areas. Right under the chin, for one, get some shadow where the hair hits the side of the nose, you could define the abs a little more, the jeans too. And I think the paper is a grainy for this type gradation project.
I really like the perspective and the overall presentation, but with a little more work, your favorite work will be impeciable. I'm a freshman in college and I'm going for art, so I know how much work you put into your stuff. So don't give up, and keep going, okay?

Oh, you're welcome. I like to help where I can, so if you ever need someone to critique or just have a question, you can always come to me.
You're already pretty much more advanced than the people I worked with in my basic drawing class. Although we focused more on the very core of drawing such as shape and outline. I reccomend drawing for an hour a day; it does help, however, you have to start with squiggles called "gesturing." I might upload some of mine that I did last semester, so that you have an idea.
I think it's great that you're dedicated to art. That is the same for me, too. I write a lot, and I sing -- badly! -- but it keeps me going.
Thanks, haha. No one has ever said that they respected me before x3. For I am short and a girl and the boys see me as a delicate flower ready to be trampled on in the inclosed crazed mass that is our school.
I'm glad to hear. I know it's going to be absolutely beautiful when it's done.

lol thank you so much!.
I would appreciate if you could show me some of the "gesturing" or what not.
I never get to learn about art because the art program at my high school isn't the greatest.

Okay. I found this site, which I think will be able to explain gesture drawing more efficiently and quicker than I could. I reviewed the basic information they were offering, and I think that will help you. I have to find my newsprint tablet from last semester before I can upload anything of mine.
OH! Yes. Newsprint tablets are best for this type of drawing because they are cheaper, the paper is well suited for the pen's (I suggest using a ball-point Bic) strokes, and you get a good amount for your money.
I can totally relate. My high school's art program was pathetic. The teacher --excuse me, "doctor"-- was out of her gourde. She was old, looked like a bird, and yelled at the window, for no apprarent reason. And, if I recall correctly, she hated rap and stuff (so do I, so this doesn't bother me) and threw out the wigga kids because they were talking in constant ebonics, and she thought that to be "of the devil."
xDD I'm starting to miss her just for that.
