Description
Based on the truth (and lies)It's happened to me before, when i'm in the middle of a shoot. I'm hunched over in a pityful yet powerful angle looking for that perfect shot; someone always seems to walk by me in those moments, half-mooning the world while i'm photographing a grasshopper. This time was a little different though... I was in the middle of nowhere, and at the same time, 30 feet high on a railroad platform. I was definately not concerned with the hole in my Flintstone underwear anymore.
Instead, I was off in My world, taking macro shots of a bird hanging upside down only 5 feet away while trying to remain perfectly still.
First there was no sound, only a distant rumble that resonated into my very soul. It startled me out of my state of intensity and the creature then turned into a cacophony of rolling thunder - I stood up and observed a speeding evil that was chasing towards me. There it was, less than 40 yards down the tracks - I knew there was no time to escape back to my safety zone near the comfort of the railing; UIIt's happened to me before, when i'm in the middle of a shoot. First there was no sound, only a distant rumble that resonated into my very soul. It startled me out of my state of intensity and the creature turned into a cacophony of rolling thunder - I stood up and observed a speeding evil that was chasing towards me. There it was, less than 40 yards down the tracks - I knew there was no time to escape back to my safety zone near the comfort of the railing; I had two choices: stay and meet an apocolyptic fate or... Yes. Flashes of memories flooded my mind and my vision blanked as I turned to look at my second option. There it was, my saviour: a five letter word I took complete trust in that moment. It was telling me exactly what to do, it was telling me it would be ok. I had to believe it, if this wasn't a sign, I don't know what is.
A moment later, the train passed me. I realized I was watching it pass, I was watching it fade. The angles were changing; the ground was different. All the fear from seconds before came soaring back and memories seemed to be stuck on repeat, like a broken record. Over and over.
It wasn't the cold cool feeling of water that I was in love with, it was the sound. Splash; almost as simple as jump. And yet, the knowledge of my ordeal being finally over was so fulfilling I couldn't help but laugh. I remembered I was human; i live on air. Needing to keep this shell alive in the life i loved i re-surfaced and swam to shore.
"What a lovely day," I gasped, soaking in the moment.
