I think they're dating. Because Derpy, or Muffins(ugh), said this after The Doctor asked her how he looked: "Like a million bits", then the hug.

No reason to call her "Muffins". She's still Derpy and this name will always be her canon name, no matter what happens from now on.

"Muffins" is not her canon name just because it appeared in the credits and on toys. It is censorship to appease the haters from three years ago that her real name wasn't used and the fact that her real name is "Derpy" is the only reason this censorship can exist.
Her canon name was also established in "The Last Roundup" already and the name of a character can't be changed anymore once it's canonically established, especially not with a snap of the fingers, and assuming that her name is "Muffins" now after her name was already clearly mentioned in an episode would be silly and nonsensical.
There is also no obligation for us to call her "Muffins" now, just because Hasbro does so. We don't have to do what Hasbro says and we don't owe Hasbro anything.

It was redone because a minority of haters called in at Hasbro and sent complaints to Amy Keating Rogers because they were "offended" (god, how much have I grown to hate this word, it doesn't even really mean anything, it's just a convenient excuse to be an entitled asshole) about Derpy's portrayal and because Hasbro was a coward and gave in to the hate.
Unless you want some haters dictate how the show should be and how the ponies we love should be, then you can't consider this as seriously canon.
Where ever the name "Muffins" will or will not be used in the future, "Derpy" will always be her canon name and "Muffins" will never be canon, because this censorship name is against the vision and ideas of DHX and especially Amy Keating Rogers (who still calls Derpy "Derpy" and they still use this name in story meetings as confirmed by Amy on Twitter) and was forced on them for the credits by entitled little haters.
