A striking piece of two halves, in terms of its simplicity of composition and palette but also in terms if the complexity of textures and shapes.
The sky lighting, although a touch over exposed, but not by much, brings a good balance to this shot, centred mainly around the marble pillar, which, for me, stands out along perhaps with the mosaic flooring as the only smooth texture in the entire work.
The simple palette works to concentrate the focus on the detailing in the scene with both texture and architecture, allowing more freedom to explore this piece. To try and imagine what resides on the upper levels and indeed, what lurks below.
There many angular shapes ranging in complexity, from the simple arches over the doorways, to the slightly more complex railings on the stairs to the masterful Corinthian Column all following the simple gradient of the peachy/browns and allowing a very smooth visual progression through the picture. The mosaic floor brings a welcome section of colour and pattern to the piece without being so intrusive as to dominate the shot.
With the neglect ever present, it does lead the viewer to wonder what this place may have looked like in its hayday, what function it maintained. We can hope that, as the title of the piece suggests, this may have indeed once been a Dream Palace.

Amazingly beautiful! I can never really understand why there are so many amazingly beautiful abandoned locations. I know upkeep would be a pain but to just throw them away makes me want to week, especially like places like in this photo, it looks like it just needs a good scrubbing and some new paint.
