Description A new place,
A new person.
An introduction.

She takes my sweaty, shaking hand,
Into her own: smoother, stronger.
"My name is Lindsey."
She says it with confidence.
With conviction.
Like it means something.
Like she means something.

[How I wish that were me.
That my name would be all I would ever need
To be someone.]

"Who are you?" she asks,
Still smiling,
Still shaking my hand.

That's why I hate introductions.
Because the truth is,
I don't know.

this puts me in mind of andrea gibson's 'photograph'. ([link] - listen).

that is a compliment.

also, i quite like the switch between fonts. i'm reading a book about fonts at the moment (which is more interesting than it sounds, honest), and i feel that it actually helps me appreciate the switch. the typical sans-serif font (whatever it is) is rounded and human and okay, it's plain, but it's not different, either. the way a person who is happy with themselves would sound - and then you switch to courier (new?), which is so restrictive and abrupt and too hard to be personal, which is perfect to represent the idea of "i don't know who i am".

in saying that, if you left the main body of the text as is, and changed lindsey's spoken sections into another font again - one that seems more feminine and handwritten - it would (possibly) add that little bit more to the poem visually... though, it could also risk making it look too complicated and cluttered.

Wow. That is a wonderful compliment... Wow. I feel so honoured.
That was a beautiful poem. It made me cry. I will definitely look at some of her other work. I love listening to spoken poetry like that, it has a power to it, makes you tremble.

Thank you about the comment on the fonts. While I was writing this I was wondering about changing the fonts and worried it might be disruptive, but I'm glad you like it. I did intend for the smaller font to represent the inner, intimate thoughts, so I'm glad that came through to you.

And I'm sure that book would be interesting. I'm a bit of a typography nut myself, and I really love meeting people who enjoy it like I do and don't think it is weird or insignificant.

I may try that--thanks for the advice.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It means so much to me.
