Description This stems from some problems I had with what was done with Ruth's character in Strong Arms Of The Ma.

I don't think it's actually Ruth.

-For one thing, save for that one appearance, she was normally sized.
-The time she was supposedly in prison, she was seen around town many times. Right after this episode, she was back to normal.
-She was extremely out of character.

So here's my idea to get around this.

Ruth isn't an only child. She had two siblings, Lily and Keira. Lily was definitely more headstrong and in charge, wheras Ruth and Keira were fine being the more passive followers. As the girls became women, Lily became addicted to hard drugs, such as meth, heroin, and steroids. Soon enough, Lily started coercing the weak-willed Keira into also being addicted, while at the same time being the recipient of Lily's abuse. At this point, Ruth was already a mother and wanted no part of her two sisters' antics, and pushed them out of her life.

Some years later, Ruth is contacted by Keira. Keira confesses to Ruth that she wants to get clean, but needs help getting away from Lily. So Ruth puts together a plan and helps Keira escape, and sneaks her into safety at a rehab center. Ruth returns home and continues her life, and Lily enacts revenge for causing her to lose the one other person she had control over.

Lily hones in on Marge Simpson, Ruth's neighbor and one-time friend. Posing as Ruth, Lily convinces Marge to get addicted to steroids. By the time Ruth is made aware of the scheme, it's too late.

Yeah, Ruth's appearance in that episode was really disappointing. She has her first speaking appearance in nearly a decade, and what does she do? She pushes drugs on her old friend Marge by playing on her insecurities. No mention of her divorce, no mention of Laura. Just "Hey Marge, take drugs or you are a noob!"

Personally I find the idea of Ruth having some evil (twin?) sister to be a bit...like a cheesy soap opera.

Written well, Lily could be a pretty chilling character: someone who believes family exists to be dominated, not loved. But it seems too much like the ridiculously contrived plot the modern Simpsons is known for.

Bear in mind that I created this as a way to cope with my mom's sister who was very much like this. The bitch lived with us and pretty much took control, so there are instances where it does happen. Thankfully the bitch is gone, but unfortunately, not dead yet.

I apologize if it sounded like I was trivializing these experiences, and pretending they don't happen.

I'm just saying that storylines like this are usually ill-handled in our cookie-cutter media, and made into the typical lifetime movie of the week, devoid of any real depth or emotion.

I think the Simpsons of today would definitely mishandle such a story, either by putting in too much drama and ass pull, or putting in too much comedy in inappropriate moments.

And truth be told, it is a little too dark for even the classic Simpsons episodes. If it had aired in the 1990s, it could have been one of the most influential pieces of television writing ever for raising the bar, not just in animation, but in television. But it would be very difficult to put on the air.

Anyways, I want to say that it is admirable that you have chosen to express your anger, not through anti-social behavior, but through art. You not only are talented, but it shows how you are a much better person than what your aunt tried to mold you into.

It was essentially my mom and her entire family. They suck. Being a wolf among sheep has its benefits. (:

This is really cool! For some reason I still picture Ruth as being from southern Ohio and owning an old Firebird Trans Am.

You should expand on your take on Ruth's story! I'd read it!

I've never actually written a story about her, but it's just a gut thing. I can just visualize her hanging around my uncles in the Double E bar in my hometown. Funny how things strike you like that. Moe reminds me a bit of my Uncle John from New York, and I've always thought that Edna Krabapple and Morgan Proctor were Roman Catholics.

Stuff like that is fun to tinker with. (: A fun tidbit I found out was that Pam Reed (Ruth's voice actress) is from my hometown! (:

We don't have any famous actors from my hometown, but as kids in Cincinnati we used to watch George Clooney's father Nick Clooney do the nightly news...

More entertaining than what I grew up with! Tacoma is a cesspool of crime.

Wow...did not know that. Cincinnati has it's areas to be sure, like on Vine Street and what they call "Over The Rhine." Oh, BTW, when you watch "Rain Man," they drive through some very familiar areas. This picture here was shot on Columbia Parkway, which I traveled on quite a bit as a youth www.themoviedistrict.com/wp-co…
