Description
Okay here's a colored pencil experiment in my undying, and somewhat pathetic, strive to learn how to use them effectively. Don't mind the mistakes in the line art; it was not my focus in this pic. I just wanted to try and color something familiar. I don't know...I'm kinda indifferent to how this came out. Any opinions on what to fix and whatnot? This is Kenshin Himura from Rurouni Kenshin by Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Ink Line Art: Time- about 10 min
Colored Pencil Work: About an hour

Thank you. For some reason I find the use of colored pencils to be exceedingly difficult. My admiration for people who use them effectively grows more and more every time I try it.

You're not alone, man. Color pencils make me wanna break something. ><.....I find it really hard to get a good solid color(too many white spots), and i'm not quite sure how to blend even though they're supposed to be blendable. Gaahhhh...Tell me if you learn anything new about colorpencils, k?

great picture! the hair in front could use a bit more highlights, though. and maybe a small spot of white on the top of the hand. other than that, it's excellent.

Thank you.
About the highlighting and the white spots: Should I leave the desired spaces white and build around them, or color lightly and go over it with a white pencil? I'm still trying to figure some things out.

my advice would be to leave the desired spots white and color lightly first, that way if you make mistakes, you can correct it more easily. then, once you've got the basic color scheme down, darken the colors.
