Description What a fine position you've gotten yourself into, Neji.

In the course of what will surely go down in Hyuuga Neji's very very manly diary as The worst night anyone could ever experience in the history of the world, Neji has left alone is in his, horrible, scary house with his useless, sick cousin, he smashed his hand into a glass cup, and now the power went out and he and Hinata, in all their shining, brave glory, are coped up in her room, with Hinata shivering under the covers and Neji curled up in a small corner of the corner trying his hardest not to shiver in fear.
Not only that, but the corner was REALLY uncomfortable. This was a long, sad night. Though, his fear of his unsettling house was not the only thing on his mind at that moment. He thought about Hinata, how she pulled him into the kitchen and tended to his bleeding hand. How her hands worked so swiftly, before he knew it a bandage had been tightly wrapped around his hand and barely any blood was lost. He had to admit, he was a little impressed...
He quickly glanced at her, and then looked away. He then did a double take. He found that she was staring back.
"I'm not sick." she said.
"Wha-"
"Well, I was, but not now, and when I asked you for water."
"Uh-"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that! 'Cause of me, your hand was injured."
"Well-"
"My bed is big enough."

He watched as she scooted to the far right side of her bed. "You don't have to sleep on the floor..." her voice dropped with every word.
Well, this was different. Why did his cheeks warm up? He decided it would be best not to think about why. Instead, it struck him how incredibly uncomfortable he was on the floor.
So for about a hour or so, the two kept a decent distance between themselves as they both rested on Hinata's bed. No words were exchanged during this time. The stillness of it all unsettled Neji, so finally he spoke.
"That's, uh, a nice ceiling you have there."
"Thank you."
"No problem."
"...I didn't choose it though..."
"Oh, right..."
"Came with the house..."
"Right...it's still nice."
"..."
"..."
Okay. This was getting ridiculous.
Fuck it.
"Are you as scared as I am, Hinata-sama?"
He didn't turn to look at her. He didn't need. He could feel her stare on him and could picture the surprised look on her face. She settled her head back down on her pillow and responded.
"Yes."
"Why?"
" 'Why?' "
"I'm just curious."

There was a pause, and she began.
"Do you remember when we were five and you told me there were monsters in the closet?"
"...Yeah..."
"Yeah."
"...And then you opened the closet and there were no monsters. That kind of proves there's no monster."
"Yeah, but we didn't disprove it."
"What?"
"Well, why are YOU scared then?!"
Neji glanced at her. Hinata's voice has never been so forceful...wasn't she just full of surprises tonight. He realized now that pride didn't mater too much too at this moment- I mean, he already admitted to being afraid of the house, so what was really holding him back now?
"Okay, fuck it. After I told you about the monster thing, I might have maybe believed it myself kind of sort of. And maybe I sill kind of believe it kind of sort of maybe a little. Or something."
Silence. For the first time of his life , Hyuuga Neji was...embarrassed. That hot feeling returned to his cheeks and for some reason, he became painfully aware of the fact that Hinata may be seeing him in all his flustered glory, which only intensified the embarrassed feeling.
Oh, you better BELIEVE this was all going down in manly journal.
More silence.
Then, the sound of tiny, timid laughter.
She was laughing? At HIM? She was LAUGHING at him? His head should have exploded right then and there, but strangely it didn't. As a matter of fact, he soon found himself laughing. A slow, uneasy laughter at first, but within a matter of seconds, escalated into a hearty, good-natured laugh with Hinata's laugh following suit.

They hadn't laughed like that since those days. Days that were filled with made-up games they played and secrets and thoughts they told each other and when their biggest concern was whether or not a monster was lurking in their closet, waiting for the moment to grab them when no one was looking.

But there was no fear. Nothing in the world-not even the most terrifying of monsters- could ruin this moment.
