Description     This is part three of my three commissioned series from JimLiesman  featuring Aika Sumeragi from Agent Aika (specifically from episode 5).

When Rion first heard the knocking she thought that she was imagining it.  After investigating the rusted ruins of what was once the bridge of a deadly battleship, Rion was starting to feel creeped out by it all.  That’s why when Rion heard a faint knocking she almost jumped out of her wetsuit, but when it grew quiet again Rion chalked it up to her overactive imagination.  But when the knocking grew louder and was more frequent Rion knew that something was there.  She tried to radio Aika to tell her what was happening but all she got was static.  Rion decided to follow the sound to find what was causing it.  The sound was coming from a compartment just outside the bridge, Rion swam to it and opened the door.  There wasn’t much in there expect for a hatch on the floor that was cover with various pieces of broken metal, it didn’t take long for Rion to realize that the knocking was coming from it.  After clearing away the pieces of metal Rion was finally able to turn the handle and open the hatch.

Rion was shocked to see Aika without her diving suit on, she was about to drown as the last of her air was bubbling out of her mouth.  Rion quickly pulled Aika out and pressed her emergency regulator into Aika’s mouth.  Moments later Aika began to cough as the air started to refill her lungs, her breath soon returned to normal but was in shock due to almost drowning.  No matter how much Rion tried to talk to her through hand signals, Aika just stared at her with hazy eyes.  Without wasting another second Rion took Aika by the hand and started to pull her to the surface.

As the emerged from the bridge Rion looked at her pressure gauge and saw that it was quickly approach the red.  With two people now using the same air tank at this great a depth they were consuming more air then usually.  What was worse was that because they were so deep they would need to swim slowly to the surface so that they can avoid decompression sickness. Rion started to swim to the surface, pulling Aika behind.  It was slow going for Rion, since Aika was still semi conscious she couldn’t swim on her own thus leaving Rion to do all the swimming for two people.  It felt like she was carry a sack of wet potatoes.  But she knew she couldn’t stop yet, if they didn’t make it to the surface before Rion air tank ran dry them they will both drown.

It wasn't long before Rion noticed that it was getting harder to breath.  She checked her pressure gauge again and saw they were well in the red and almost approaching zero.  It wouldn’t be long now until they were out of air completely. The surface was so close Rion could almost touch it, they just need to hold on a little bit longer.  Ever breath felt like see was breathing through a straw that was getting thinner every second, Rion looked down and saw that Aika was starting to convulse as the air was becoming thinner.  It felt like Rion was been swimming for eternity, every moment seemed to stretch on until forever.  Rion pushed through the pain and kept swimming, knowing that if she didn’t both she and Aika would drown.

At last they broke the surface of the ocean.  Rion immediately ripped off her face mask and breathed in the salt sea air, she also made sure that Aika was breathing as well and tried to keep her head out of the water as much as she could.  They were only a few feet from the boat, Rion managed to flag out the crew and they able to help both Aika and Rion back on board.  While their mission may not have been a success, Rion is just glad that she and Aika are alive and ready to dive another day.
