    Connie and Leah wanted to get in some extra freediving practice to improve their breath holding times. Luckily the freediving pool was empty for the afternoon, so after changing into their swimsuits they made their way to the pool. Once there they agree to do some Dead Men Dives, so they went into the gear locker and pulled out wrist, ankle, and neck weight shackles as well as weight belts. Once they locked themselves into their gear and put on their masks and fins, they jumped into the water and swam to the freediving buoy. Connie suggested that they try freediving to the bottom of the 100-meter pool, the first one to reach the bottom has to buy the other dinner. Once Leah agreed they began their deep breath exercises, once their lungs were saturated with as much oxygen as could possibly be they both dove down into the pool.

    Since both Connie and Leah were very fast swimmers, they were neck and neck for pretty much most of the way. Each letting their weights pull them down into the pool’s depth while giving short rhythmic kicks to speed themselves up. They mostly just used the safety lines to pull themselves since it uses less energy and thus save them more air. It was not until their reached the entrance to the deep pool pit at about 80 meters where they started to swim a bit faster. While not going super-fast they began to kick a bit faster. Connie and Leah took glances at each other, trying to see if the other would crack and turn back to the surface. However both didn’t show signs of giving up. Connie was slighting in the lead in the last 5 meters, but Leah took a risk and dolphin kicked herself to the lead. Dolphin kicking uses a lot of air but it is one of the fastest swimming techniques, sure enough Leah swam in front of Connie and touched the bottom of the pool first. As Connie signed Leah congratulations by giving her some underwater claps, Leah replied by giving her two thumbs up. Connie sign to Leah that they should start heading back to the surface, Leah gave her the okay and they proceeded to ascend.

    They swam no more than 5 meters when an alarm started to imitate from their diver’s watches. Both Connie and Leah looked down at them and saw a message that read “Intruder on premises. Initiated lockdown.” Before Connie could begin to comprehend what that meant she heard the grind of metal from above her, she looked up and saw that two metal doors were beginning to come together to seal off the entrance to the deep pit. Both Connie and Leah began to swim as fast as they could to escape before they were sealed in, but they were too far away and the doors were closing too fast. By the time they made it to the hatch they were already sealed shut. Connie and Leah began to push and pound at the hatch, hoping that it would somehow open it. Connie even tried pushing her fingers through the teeth of the hatch to try to push them open, but it was too tight.

    Now trapped 80 meters underwater with no sources of air in sight, it was only a matter of time before they drown. The rescue teams couldn’t even get to them, meaning that they were to black out there was no guarantee that someone could revive them. Connie looked down at her watch to see if she could text someone for help, but the lockdown affected their communication as well. However she saw a strange new red button that appeared on her watch, she pressed it and message appeared that said “Divers in pool detected. Proceed to safe room.” Seconds later another metal hatched appear and open beside them. It revealed a long tunnel that Connie assumed would lead to the safe room and hopeful some air. Connie signed to Leah to follow her and together they ventured inside.
