Gold

She followed her new master through the streets of Messus. The towering buildings looming above her, seeming to defy gravity as they clawed towards the sky. Once bright and sparkling, now dull and rotting. She remained a shoulder-length behind Nephthys, her head and tail never raising higher then her queen's. She had subconsciously drawn closer to the female when they had entered the city, not wanting to be buffeted away from her by the many bodies that frequented the markets. Nor did she want to bump into her mistress. It was a rather flustering moment for the female, who still had not been able to get a real read on her owner. She did not know why she had been brought to the market, nor did she bother to ask. Such information was needed Nepht would have told her. Still, she could not help but allow her eyes to flick about, taking in the city. She had never been here before and it fascinated her.

Nephthys

The sabled brown looked at everything and nothing as they walked the streets of Messus. It had been a few days since she took Gold Dust to Feldar and once she thought she was settled down with where things were and where Nephthys resided, she decided to take a visit to Messus. Before the sun even rose on the sandy horizon, the regal female told Gold to wake up and that she would accompany her. Nothing else was said, as they trekked out of Sunye.
The city was busy today, and the streets on certain sections was filled with ketucai and others wanting to earn a few gold with their merchandise. She never stopped on any, and nothing was of her interest as always. Some tried to call for her attention, knowing that she had to buy, but she simply carried on. When tired, she headed to a location that sold all types of water; flavored, infused or spiked you name it.
The female glanced at the menu they had on the top, before turning to face Gold with a flicker of her ear. "You thirsty? Wish for something to quench it?"

Gold

The city was so lively. Her eyes could not sit still as she followed Nepht deeper into the heart of the city. Those calling to her master for her attention. Gold ignored them as well, finding it easier to follow Nepht's lead rather than think about what to do. When her lady and mistress brought them to an area where water was being sold, she stopped. When the question was directed at her her heart skipped. She had not had anyone ask her if she would like a drink before. Most of her life she had simply waited until Kaiser had dolled out the supplies. "Y-yes, my lady." She stuttered. She looked up at the offered drinks, then looked back down and her paws. Embarrassment caused her to flush. She could not read the words  written on the menu.

Nephthys

A flicker in her amber eyes betrayed the irritation, yet it was to be expected. Some things you just had to coax and form. "Simply water or flavored perhaps..?" She let the sentence trail off, intent on the other female. She was prodding and testing. Taking notes on things that she'd address later on.
The waiter taking the order waited patiently as best they could, excitement danced in their eyes as at the thought of getting a good tip out of exceptional service if the provided it as Nephthys ordered what seemed to be the most expensive thing on the list.

Gold

She had irritated her. This stung the girl who desired more then anything to prove that she was a useful slave. She did not want to be returned to Kaiser, sold, or traded for another ket Nepht thought more suitable for her. "I's never been given a choice before. Tis not my place." She offered as pitiful apology for her slowness. But that was what she had been given, and it took her completely by surprise to think she'd be allowed to choose what she drank. Her lips twitched in a ghost of a smile at being shown such kindness. Then she frowned again as the words blurred before her. But there were pictures. She eyed the colorful drinks as concentrated hard to form the words properly. "Might I, have this one?" Her voice was slow and careful as she did her best not to stumble over her tongue. She had been listening to Nephthys as she spoke to others, and as they spoke to her and had been trying hard to remember how she spoke. This was the suitable way a slave of such high rank should speak. Not the rough, manner she did now.  She pointed out the colorful drink with her claw, having no idea what it was or if it was alcoholic or not. Just that it looked pretty. Naturally, she looked to Nepht for confirmation that this selection was acceptable.

Nephthys

She watched, as she first apologized and then went along to see the menu. There was something that seemed to be keeping Gold from sweeping through the sign of all the drinks   , but the fantail said nothing. The decision came to what seemed to be of colors, and she wondered why not speak the name of the drink itself. Could she not see pronounce it? Yet it seemed simple enough when Nephthys took a glance as the waiter looked to her and she could also feel the gaze of the horned female. "It will do, although do bring it plain." She said and the waiter practically ran to get their order in.
It was indeed alcoholic, but decided not to mention it. Albeit, she was curious as to the way she decided. Others would leave it at that, but it seemed to be something Nephthys would pick upon. If she was to have ketu-in-waiting, there needed to be certain tasks to be preformed.

While they waited, Neph's gaze wandered and kept her ears open. There were rumors she had heard, and all good rumors were worth following. She spoke in a lower voice. "There seems to be rumors of underground racing  here in Messus. Although I haven't heard much open talk to it, it would mean we'd have to know  where exactly to look."

Gold

She felt so embarrassed. But how could she confess to not knowing how to read? But was it right of her to withhold that information? Even if it meant she was sent back, she should tell her. Golden eyes watched the waiter leave in in a hurry and for a moment she was worried she'd be scolded for her ineptitude. Then the fantail queen moved onto a different topic, just as she was mustering the nerve to tell her. She cocked her head at the mention of races. She had never seen a race before. It sounded exciting. "Racin' that sounds right exciting, my lady." She responded, feeling like she should. "Master Kaiser done spoke of it with some costumers, from time to time." She furrowed her brow as she tired to recall the conversations. "But I can't recollect, any locations." But Nephtthys wouldn't have brought it up if she had no idea where to begin, she was far too shrewd not to have picked something up. The waiter soon returned with their refreshments and Gold waited for Nepht to reach for her own drink and take a sip before pulling her own towards her. She tentatively took a sip. The flavor was like nothing she had ever tasted and she could not help but smile and wonder and pleasure. She had never tasted anything like it before. She took another sip, savoring the cool refreshment. Her lady was so generous to offer her such a treat!

Nephthys

"I see, so there is truth to that one." Despite not having vital information like a location, the mere mention of it actually being mentioned by that Kaiser and some of his customers was a good indicator of validation. Now it was the matter of simply using the correct words and perhaps a generous hint of a tip and perhaps the waiter knew something. It was always the same, measured gestures, subtle hints and gold always made a tongue a bit loose.

With a smile she accepted the drinks as the waiter returned, he blinked in surprised at how the lady thanked him and offered an extremely good tip. "Now, you must know all that there is to enjoy oneself in this city." She purred, her crest moving ever so slightly in elegance, catching the right sunlight that they seemed to shimmer. "Would you happen to know of one that I could indulge myself with some bets my dear?"

And the other nodded eagerly, shifting his eyes from side to side, moving in slightly before he spoke of the Messus Runners. Those ketucari who torn into the track, and provided the best of entertainment, even earning them some profit if they chose a worthy runner.

Bingo.

"I appreciate the information, your service was exemplary." With a few more gracious bows and thanks from the waiter, Nephthys smile had become a real one. The anticipation to see what just these Messus Runners had to offer was worthy of her investigation. "And that, dear Gold, is how you make a mute talk." Her amber eyes danced with mirth as she finished her drink with a last sip. "You simply have to find someone willing and carefully picked words."

Gold

She nodded confirmation. Yes. She was certain that there were indeed races in Messus. It would be thrilling to help hunt down this underground ring of racers. Gold Dust watched as the waiter's tongue was loosed by Nepht coercion tactics. She had seen kaiser work customers before, but she had not seen someone levy information out of another so easily as she did now. She was clearly impressed. She sipped down the last of her drink as the conversation ended. When her lady turned back to her she smiled. "My lady, you are mighty impressive. Truly, truly." She breathed. She doubted that she could ever have such ease with words.

Nephthys

"Of course, it took years to master but its served me well." She expressed, happy to have someone be in awe of her works. Nephthys asked for the check and paid it, before heading out into the streets once again. Yet not they had a set location, there would not find much movement currently as it was still early afternoon, but once dusk descended they could go and see this races.

"You should practice as well Gold," The regal began. "Words are most powerful weapons when wielded correctly. Given you're now mine and others will associate you with me, I'll be giving you lessons in what I believe you'll need the most aid in." She had seen some gorgeous tapestry that suited her tent, the vibrant colors of gold and emerald combining to form an abstract image. She simply had to have it. Once purchased, Nephthys gave it to Gold to carry

Gold

Golden Dust gave a nod. It really was quite amazing that someone could get so much just by speaking. When she, a slave had nothing but her own tongue the idea that it could be invaluable struck a cord with her. At the mention of lesson Gold gave a smile and a nod. "I wills do my best, I will." She promised as she took the tapestry from her queen. She would not let her owner down and would become a respectable slave that she could be proud of.
