Personality
Quartz is a very smart and well read Staryu. They normally have a tired attitude that feels like they’re just done with everything. Though get Quartz on a topic they’re interested in and they’ll perk right up and go on an info dump. They’re very smart and responsible.
History
Growing up, Quartz wanted to be a scientist, solve global warming and ocean pollution, and save the world! They would read every book he could find. They spent many days doing odd jobs around the Starlight Marina’s boardwalk. He would run around, looking for people who needed help, and tried to help them out. Through a series of nods, and pointing to a pokedollar Quartz tried to communicate they were saving up. Very often he would only get pennies worth of pokedollars, food, or just complete confusion from the other party. All of this, saving up money to one day go to college.
As for Quartz’s family, he has several siblings, most of whom still live at the coral reef Quartz grew up. They see Quartz as a wet blanket.
Finally when they got old enough the day came. They walked up to those college gates, and immediately got rejected. Silly Staryu, college is for humans. They worked so hard, just to get turned away for being a Staryu. This fueled Quartz’s rage at the systems who be, and he strove for change.
Except Quartz had no idea how to do that. They became a sad little Staryu who drowned their sorrows at the beach, occasionally picking up others trash but knowing their efforts were useless. On one of his daily sulkings he came across Night. They quickly bonded over Dnd, and when Night explained Zephyr to Quartz, it sounded like the one option they had left to try.
Quirks
*Avid reader. Has a library card. Quartz’s favorite kind of books are fantasies and mystery novels that focus on the main character’s smart plays.
*Tends to stay up way too late, they're almost always grumpy tired.
*They like to play Dnd.
*The lack of fingers is the bane of his existence.
*Is annoyed when the people around him act dumb.
*Has become very spoiled by the luxuries of Night’s dorm as opposed to living in the wild.
*Absolutely garbage handwriting. Those stubs do not hold things well. There’s a reason the league threw away all his letters. The college threw away all his letters since they thought they were pranks.
*As a kid Quartz thought they were rich. Got pretty disappointed when they found out just how little his life savings were actually worth.
*Quartz hates people who pollute. If you pollute they will give you a 3 hour lecture.
*Due to Staryu being closely related to psychic types, when around shadow pokemon he gets a vague vibe that something is off, but can’t quite tell what.
*Despises plastic water bottles
