Description
This is my latest coverart (for the debut album of German Metal band ATTIC - they make 80s Metal in the vein of MERCYFUL FATE etc.)
The whole idea was the band's and I made this cover based on a sketch I sent them and some reference photos of catholic altars.
It's a digital painting but to achieve a slightly raw and traditional look, I painted some cloudy dark and light areas on a canvas board, scanned it and painted all the details half-transparent over it digitally with a Wacom tablet, so you can still see the texture of the canvas.
It was fun to do but also a lot of work (maybe more than 50 hours), because everything was painted by hand (although most of it digitally) and I had to do a second painting for the back of the CD/LP (which was not as detailed).
