Description
After seeing the mysterious alien race in Prometheus, i just had to turn this idea into a picture, my first attempt of drawing either creature.I decided to create what i suspect Ridley Scott fears most for his Sci-fi vision, a crossover with Predators!
And why have i done this ? Because i could
I think it would have been much more interesting to see the Promethian face off against a Predator rather than what actually happened, but then i do have the occasional weakness for non highbrow sci-fi action. And as opponents it would make for an interesting match as they are roughly of similar build.
The original title for this is actually "Godwar" in reference to the position both antagonists have played with humans, The Spacejockey/Engineers, or Promethians as i like to call them apparently created Humanity, while much later the Predators apparently became worshiped as Deities by primitive humans. And it sounded cool as a title.

Really good picture!
Have you read the recently finished "Fire and Stone" comics? In Predator: Fire and Stone, the Predator actually fights an Engineer. I was so happy to see this officially done. So Ridley was already screaming... but nobody heard...

I haven't read them either, but from the few pictures I have seen, they are pretty good.
If you are really curious about the Predator encounter with an Engineer, I managed to find a thread on the forum Spacebattles discussing Space Marine vs Engineer, the guy who started the thread placed the Predator v Engineer fight in it.
forums.spacebattles.com/threadβ¦
Click on "spoiler" and some pictures from the comic issue will pop up. The very first one of the Predator hunting various other sapient aliens besides humans is my favourite comic panel, it shows how awesome the Predators are, not being afraid of anything. I also liked how physically imposing the Engineer was. But then again, this particular Predator was a bit older, so age could have worked against him. He still put up a pretty good fight.

Dear God! Everything with Yautja (Preds  I love them so) is much more interesting. And a Yautja versus Engineer (Engineers are so super hot, just like Yautja - I think I'm a perv) is almost as good ans Yautja vs Xenomorph (and Xenomorphs are epic, though far from good looking, but kind of cute as well - my aesthetic sense may be gimpy at best).
I know, Yautja versus Engineer versus Xenomorph would be interesting experiment (maybe throw some damsel in distress, or distressed damsel, so there would be some good looking human there too).

You're welcome.
Xenomorphs are complicated because all of the details, I only ever made one and it was rather simplistic (and not so good) one.
Since the first time I saw an Engineer I was curious, what would happen if an Engineer would meet a Yautja, what would they think of each other and what would they do. Would an Enineed think the Preddy is a primitive and savage? Would a Yautja think that engineer is a worthy prey or maybe some prissy wimp?

OMG, who should I root for? The two sexiest aliens duking it out and I can't decide who I want to win!
Love this. Especially like the expression on the Engineer's face. He looks so determined
I would pay good money to see this in a movie

Whoever wins, we.....would get to see a really impressive fight. I just didn't like how the Engineer/Promethian was taken out in the film, i would have rather enjoyed to have seen a punch up like this occur with the Predator just randomly turning up for no apparent reason
Thanks I think i just about caught the feel of these two physically powerful aliens,
I would be interested to see if they could make a decent film with the idea Though i personally still think the Engineers should be called Promethians

Yeah, he was my favorite character in the movie and I wished he'd had a chance to kick a bit more ass/duke it out with Shaw a bit more. Originally, they were supposed to fight more and she was supposed to rough him up a bit with an ax, but RS thought that "diminished him," and took it out. Maybe it'll be put in the deleted scenes when it comes out on DVD.
Promethians isn't a bad name for them...especially since "Engineers" is just a human name for them. We don't know what they're really called. But I'm still pretty attached to the expanded universe name of Mala'kak

It seemed a good name, i feel Space Jockey works better as an affectionate nick name by fans, and Engineer is just a little lacking in imagination, while Promethians works with the films title and i feel actually suits this titan-like race.
Hopefully it will catch on as a name for them, and thanks

I really like the name Space Jockey. I wonder what the reasoning is behind the name. Maybe the chair he sits on looks like a DJ table? Or he looks like he is riding something? xP

You never know. I'm sure others will use it.

I think the name Space Jockey was taken from a Robert Heinlein story about a space pilot, so the creative staff on ALIEN probably named the alien pilot after it.

I was more than a little disappointed by Prometheus; I wanted it to be more cerebral than it was. That said, I, too, love lowbrow sci-fi action, and this concept is pretty damned awesome!

adamantis In reply to BullittBlank [2012-07-28 17:40:06 +0000 UTC]
Maybe they were trying to aim too broadly at the audience.
I was a bit surprised by the general behavior of the scientists, the crew of the Nostromo from ALIEN seemed so much credible in their approach compared to the allegedly educated scientists of the Prometheus.
Thanks for the compliment

Exactly! That's why I expected more of Prometheus, I think. Ridley Scott had set the bar so high with Alien, and I wanted more of that.

This is something of an interesting premise, because whether people want to admit it or not, AvP and Prometheus actually seem to fit together-- of course the only inconsistency is the fact when Weyland Industries was founded. In Alien vs Predator lore, it was founded by Charles Bishop Weyland, but in Prometheus/ALIEN lore-- it was founded by Peter Weyland somewhere in 2004. However this comes from a viral marking website and speculation to it's placement in canon is somewhat debated but aside from that inconsistency-- Alien vs Predator and Prometheus could fit into a singular timeline. And considering that the Yautja and the Engineers have come across each other in the past, your little story actually makes some sense.
Anyway, great line work and coloring, though I feel as if the Yautja mask looks a little too conforming to a human head rather than a Yautja head. I think it's because you have the hair coming from the top of the head rather than the crown of the head being flat and the hair not coming from the back. But other than that, great idea and awesome work!
And yeah, Ridley Scott does come off as high brow. I can agree with you there. Ha ha!

adamantis In reply to RakaiThwei [2012-07-26 22:04:49 +0000 UTC]
I'd go watch it if they made it, ideally with a strong but unpretentious plot and better lighting than some of the films I like the idea that the Predators might have been involved in grounding the Engineer/Space Jockey/Promethian ship that appears in ALIEN.
The Weyland thing could be explained by some slight plot tweeking, such as making Peter Weyland a distant relative of Charles Bishop Weyland, who bought up the name/company after Charles Weyland's death in 2004.
Thanks for a really positive comment and the minor critique on the Predator. I agree about the head, it does look more human every time i look at it now , i'll try and get that right for the next picture when the Yautja punches back.

RakaiThwei In reply to adamantis [2012-07-26 22:11:29 +0000 UTC]
Like I said, Prometheus does fit in the Alien vs Predator timeline. There are numerous, if not unintended parallels between the two films. So really there are some small and minor but noticeable connections there. Also Ridley Scott did say that the ship in ALIEN was from the same base in Prometheus but it had been launched hundreds, if not thousands of years ago, and crash landed on LV-426. Also, looking at the murals, suggest that the Xenomorphs more or less had been created long ago and were the prized product of war by the Engineers. What we see at the end is really not so much a Protomorph but a variation of the Xenomorph we know.
Yes, the Weyland thing could work with some plot tweaking and I do agree that they could've been distant relatives, if not direct relatives. Charles Bishop Weyland was a big name, so he might've had some family in England.
No problem about the critiquing. If it helps, it would be a good idea to reference photographs of Predator heads and helmets from the films, or even from sculptures to better depict Yautja.
