Description
This was a study I decided to do in order to get myself reinterested in (or more like gain respect for) cartoon wolves.The other reason is my reason for not liking boring wolves in the first place xD; Wolf artists seem to pick one anatomy (usually a BBA copy at that) and just stick to that for ALL their characters with only animu hairstyles and absurd markings. And while there's nothing wrong with hairstyles and absurd markings on your characters, it feels like a markings Arms race with everyone trying to find a new color or stripe to make their characters more individual. It feels like switching up actual facial structures and anatomy has taken a real backseat to monotony.
Incidentally it's one of those things that shoots wolf-comics in the kneecap. If all your characters are essentially the same short of their markings then your cast is vomitously boring T_T;;;
Here's proof (at least for myself) that even without differing markings, colors, hairstyles, scars, accessories, etc, wolves can be designed to look different from each other o/
Made on Photoshop CS3

NOTE: You know what? I can't really stand this whole "realism" excuse. Subtle is one thing and monotony is another. Don't stop "Fantasy > realism" right at anatomy. Especially if your animals have non-realistic features to their species already like horns or wings. Are you really going to tell me that "grey wolves" don't realistically have varied faces while you give them wings or haircuts? No, these really aren't too different things. Unrealistic fantasy features ARE UNREALISTIC FANTASY FEATURES. Do not draw the line at facial features and anatomical variety. To force yourself into monotony under reasonings of "realism" such as these is being cruel to yourself and your characters.

This has made me totally rethink characters! It has also inspired me to go back and make new references for all of my characters and make them all different! XD
Thank you for making this, and also for the links to the other tutorials!

I know I shouldn't pick favorite - but the one with the fluffy roman nose <3 <3Ā
(roman noses are a huge weakness for me - so i actually have to stop myself from drawing it on pretty much everything)
Also kudos on trying to spread diversity - the realism is a new excuse for me though I usually her "but it's my styyyyyle" xDĀ

Thanks, I've been trying to redisign my OCs after a long day being unable to tell any apart. xD Back when I was a noob and thought that only color and fur density affected characters. xD Of course, those help, but they still make bland OCs, but really, a lot of the problem with a lot of artists, including myself, is getting out of your comfort zone. Yes, you may love wolves with FLUFFY necks, but try one with a more sleek neck for a change? That exact thing happened with me. Now I find wolves right in the middle more fun. Another good thing with wolves, species! Don't just say that your OC is a wolf, what kind of wolf? Grey wolf, arabian wolf, mexican wolf, ect. Otherwise, try another canine species. Sorry about ranting. xD I do this a lot.

Amazing work on all the heads! They are all original and unique [I hope i spelled it right]. Their look is so different,and all of them seem to have different personalities as well. I love all of them,but the ones that really got my eye are 29,28,35,46,48 and 50. Do you have personal favourites from these?

can we use some of these, but of course change colors and shape (shape just a little bit).
I would give you credit for them, and I wouldn't sell the art. I would use them for practices.
