The scene definitely developed more soul as the drawing progressed. Masterful as always. Your lighting sensibility has always impressed me. You always know where to put the source of the illumination. This is a dark piece, but also hopeful...I can imagine several interpretations of the story behind the image.

Oh wow! I love this! The expression is so...angry and defensive. Almost like he's saying "Mine...my own...my prescioussssss...." XD Yeah, you better not take that book away from him. XD

Yeah, his face really did keep changing, didn't it? But I like him in all of them. The glares are all subtly different, but all good!

I like how the final came out, but I also like the one before it. I like how the third from the left (I think that's the right one...) came out the best. But that expression! It says so much... Did you just draw it out of your head, or did you use a reference? It's awesome!

Thank you. Both! I saw it in my head first, worked it out onto paper, then used personal references (i.e. my own hands, books, pose) to define it. I've been trying to work with more realism in my pencil and digital art the past year.

YOu're welcome! That's a good idea! I sometimes have to look at myself, or someone else posing that way. And using yourself is so much easier than trying to find the perfect pose with someone else's work, sometimes. I really like your realism, keep up the good work!

Wow, this is fantastic. His glare is so intense!
Can you make a tutorial about how you edited this picture in photoshop?

AdeleLorienne In reply to NieleMzk [2009-05-13 19:52:53 +0000 UTC]
There's not much of a tutorial to be made. ^__^;; Just the airbrush tool until I painted something that worked, and some tinting and grain texture overlay when I was all finished.

You should put the final image in your public library or something. At least people will take better care of the books ... else they'll come face to face with His Snappiness.

Beautiful piece of work, absolutely stunning. I love the dark background that pushes the character into the foreground. I love the way you have the single light source falling on the shoulders.
This drawing leaves me both with an ominous foreboding feeling, but yet still very melancholy feeling as well. This is such amazing work.

I love how you drew his hair and I envy the folds in the cloak. His hands are also particularly lovely .

I'm not sure...I rarely keep track of time when I'm sketching. But I think a day and a half or so of planning and playing around with it until it worked? ^__^;

AdeleLorienne In reply to Deistainte [2009-04-05 00:52:35 +0000 UTC]
They're his journals, actually. They contain information about certain things that led to his madness, but he won't let anyone have them. ^__^;;
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Deistainte In reply to AdeleLorienne [2009-04-05 04:59:18 +0000 UTC]
I suppose that's understandable then... Aww...he keeps a journal though. The only other boy I know who does that is my Felix. God forbid if anyone got their hands on his diary O.O I'm sure they would end up being scarred for life or at least have their eyes light on fire. No doubt Luke's journals would be disturbing too, but probably not in the same way.
