Description
A mixed-media portrait commission of Sherlock Holmes, as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch! You guys have been hiring me for all the best things lately. I can’t get over his hair! All those glorious curls. *___* His face was a huge challenge, spent days trying to get the shadow placement correct, but I must say I don’t mind realism practice at all when it’s on him!I've been a fan of Sherlock Holmes since waaaaaay back, every book (have them all leather bound with gold embossed covers), every tv series and radio adaption and movie rendition of him throughout the decades. <3<3

That's a coincidence, I was just thinking of the show lately and you just come out with this picture!
But it's really nice, I love the shadows ;-D Don't you want to do Mycroft too?

Nice. I don't watch the show, but this portrait is very well done. The background and the b/w portrait make an excellent combination. Great job on the face's shading, too.

I really love how his hair turned out . He does indeed have unique facial features that can be quite challenging to recreate and get down on paper
. I am curious though, is the shadowing on him done in photoshop or was that pencil?

It's a mix! The lines, definition and some minor shading is pencil, with digital shading, tones, and lighting beneath.

It was done well then I like how the background blends with the black and white of the character. Well it is a very good picture! ^_^

I love it when that tall lanky man is curled in a one-seater chair yelling at the television screen!

You and me both. I absolutely love Sherlock Holmes. I think I've seen every version of The Hound of the Baskervilles that's ever been done.
In any case, this is a brilliant portrait. And I love Benedict's portrayal and Sherlock, so this just made my night. Beautiful!

Lovely piece, Adele, quite lovely.
Basil was a very good Holmes; though what the studios did with Sir Arthur's stories was typically appalling. I have to go with Jeremy Brett; though I must say, he did have to win me over with his first turn with the character. I also have two copies of "The complete Sherlock Holmes"; one of which is the illustrated reproductions of the original publications. The engraved pen and ink drawings are worth coping with tiny type.

'Twas a giftie from my hubby. Been falling into the Brett DVDs lately as a way to unwind from the craziness; and applying scales to a large Asian dragon.

Adele, he looks GORGEOUS. My favorite Sherlock will always be Basil Rathbone, but I love your Benedict C. <3

Oh yes, I love Basil! I have all his movies and even some of the old radio dramas with him. <3<3 Jeremy Brett is perhaps the most accurate Sherlock, so far as Sir Arthur wrote him, but the modern BBC take with Benedict is brilliant!

Good gracious golly. This is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. Benedict's face is a holy terror to get right, but it's so beautiful that it's entirely worth it! I love the colours, and holy Hera his cheekbones. Damn. Gorgeous job with this.
