Description
Finally managed to update this infographic.Just like Sword&Shield and Legends:Arceus, Scarlet&Violet have thrown even more twists into the idea of new Pokémon designs that are directly based on existing ones.
The number of actual regional forms added was surprisingly small, affecting only 2 families (Tauros and Wooper), though even those two are far from basic (as Tauros also has 2 version exclusive alternate elemental forms, while Wooper underwent the Perrserker treatment rather than evolving into a Paldean Quagsire),
but that's because a completely new concept was added; which are basically Pokémon that strikingly resemble previous Pokémon, but are not (biologically) related to them (so Wiglett resembles Diglett, but rather than being a mole, it is a garden eel). I coined the term "Parallel Pokémon" for them.
There is also a subgroup of Parallel Pokémon which have the official term "Paradox Pokémon". They are lore-wise and among the fans speculated to be ancestors or futuristic replacements of the Pokémon they're based on, but I argue that they are just as biologically unrelated (for one, the future ones aren't even biological, while the past seem to be deliberately based on Pokémon that wouldn't make sense to have prehistoric ancestors, while also simply not being able to breed at all, let alone with the Pokémon they resemble).
(A fan-made term people have been using is "convergent Pokémon", which kind of fits some of them and is what Wiglett was teased with in its reveal, but is ultimately inaccurate for the group as a whole, as Parallel Pokémon can vary drastically in what sense they "differ" from the original)
This whole category is just wild, and not something I ever would have expected.
I am VERY curious how DLC or new games might further flesh out these categories.
While working on the infographic, I also took the opportunity to move Galarian Mr. Mime over to the Regional-Evolution Forms, creating an awkward long stretch across the Galarian forms.
Previously, Galarian Mr. Mime presented a conflicting case due to the mechanics of cross-generational pre-evolution breeding (to be specific, from Mime Jr.'s standpoint, Galarian Mr. Mime is a Regional-evolution form, since it can only evolve into it if the evolution happens in Galar, but from regular Mr.Mime's standpoint, Galarian Mr.Mime is a full evolutionary family regional form, since breeding a Galarian Mr.Mime outside of Galar would result in regular Mr.Mime and vice versa; and I prioritized the standpoint of Mr.Mime, purely because it came first), but now that Scarlet&Violet has removed Incenses and retconned all of the cross-gen Baby-Pokémon to be the only base-form of their respective evolutionary lines (so breeding any Mr.Mime anywhere will always result in a Mime Jr., requiring regional evolution to reach the Galarian form), the case is closed and Galarian Mr.Mime is exclusively a Regional-Evolution Form.
I am slightly annoyed that I couldn't find an elegant way of only having OG Diglett once on the graphic.
At one point I had the Alolan forms stretching underneath the Regional-Form evolutions to parallel species next to Diglett, but it was a mess...

14-05-2023 UPDATE:
added Iron Leaves / Walking Wake, and moved the other Paradoxes around a bit and updated the colors of the types to match my custom type symbols
10-06-2023 UPDATE:
finally got around to testing breeding of Basculegion/White-stripe Basculin in SV to definitively confirm that there is no regional influence involved (ie breeding either of those will always result in White stripe Basculin even outside of Hisui, without the need of an Everstone, just like the other forms of Basculin always produce more of their form). Therefore I have removed the line from the infographic.
26-08-2023 UPDATE:
added Iron Crown / Raging Bolt as well as Poltchageist, and preliminary placements for 2 more obvious Paradoxes and a speculative evolution of Poltchageist.
26-01-2024 UPDATE:
Added Artworks of Iron Boulder / Gouging Fire and Sinistcha
