i really like this shot. in terms of alignment, i don't think you could have been more on the money (i see from your id you have a stand/tripod thingy, that probably helps a bit).
it's great because dead center you capture rain, but all around it is a bright cheerful day as this massive storm system cannot completely block out the suns rays from shining. i find the underlying message to be one of optimism, and i like that.

If I use it I'll link back and let you know. I've been browsing for just the right cloud formation to use as a background for a composition. Your's is the closest to what I've been seeing in my head but it didn't quite fit with the othere elements. (arghh).

Wow. That's all I can say! You haven't submitted anything in a while and I was getting worried that I'd not see anymore photos, but then you come back with this! Brilliant photo. The colours are so vivid, and I love the way the peir thing jutts out into the centre of the photo. Also the bright blue sky above the gloomy undercoat of the cloud is fantastic.

The purple in the clouds...such a unique color (especially reflected in water). It almost looks like the makings of a tiny hurricane.
