Description
The sweltering days burned offInto the cold nights.
Surrounded by the blackest black
That sucks the heat from somewhere deep inside me
We hunch our backs over the fire
Telling stories
Listening to the rhythmic pop and crackle
As each strong log turns to ash
Letting vibrant orange and yellow sparks fly;
Be carried by the wind into the ground or our shoes.
And I watch as the flickering fire
Illuminates new shadows
That I have never seen
And will never see again
But I am brought back to my reality
As the fiery needles shoot out of the flames.
Those around me swat at them
But I only stare as they glow upon my legs
And then slowly fade
Alone in this crowd
I am left wondering
Wondering why I cannot feel the heat upon my face
But only the icy fingertips running up my spine
