Description
Cars drift along the highwayAnd quickly pass us by.
Full of men, women, and dogs;
Children who yearn to fly.
I try to fall asleep,
As I travel into the night,
But headlights dance
Across my darkened eyelids
Like many doves in flight.
On the radio a man murmurs
About traffic and such things,
But my sleepy thoughts flutter about,
On delicate moth like wings.
They flit across my lovers lost,
And true loves ultimate heartbreaking cost.
They soar above time spent with friends,
With dripping brilliant sunsets,
Laughter that never ends.
Then swoop across the tragedies,
Which have infested my life,
Like ticks or fleas.
But come to rest on things unreal,
That I will never truly feel.
The plunk on rain upon the roof
Offers me the only proof;
Draws me back with its pitter patter,
As raindrops hit the windshield
And quickly shatter.

I espcially love the last lines, they are nice and onomatopoeiac, and sweet. I know what you mean by travelling about, although I have only ever travelled down to England really, lol. This is a beautiful poem, nonetheless.
