Description
Ah, Rome. The most powerful and most prestigious nation to have ever existed. Its legacy lives on today throughout the world. Here, Ancient Rome is seated upon a throne, holding the hasta (spear) and protecting his young grandson Veneziano. Romano, his other grandson, looks on with contempt at the inheritance that will never be his. "Adoring" him is a diminutive Germania, his bodyguard and his doom. At the base of his throne lies a depiction of many of the modern Hetalia countries that occupy the area which used to be the Roman Empire (Note: The names used here are regions that generally correspond to the modern countries, whether they are the names of provinces, dioceses as in the later Empire, or just general regions):
- Spain (Hispania)
- Switzerland (Rhaetia)
- Liechtenstein (also in Rhaetia)
- France (Gaul)
- Austria (Noricum)
- England (Britannia)
- Hungary (Pannonia)
- Belgium (Belgica)
- Germany (the region of Germania, obscured because he was never fully conquered)
- North Italy (Italia Annonaria)
- South Italy (Italia Suburbicaria)
- Greece (Achaea)
- Egypt (Aegyptus)
- Turkey (Asia and Pontus)
This drawing is based on "Jupiter and Thetis" by the French painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.

Ahh! I clicked to see this, and I see the great awesomeness up close...!
The pencil art is win, and the chibis are cute!
I love how everyone is posed, and how it resembles Jupiter and Thetis.
It's also cool to see the countries' Roman-region name!
