Description New shoot... Special thanks to for the suggestion and tips!!

This is my first actual shoot with artificial light... a $30 lamp from Ikea. And there are a bunch of other pictures I'd like to post, but I have trouble deciding which to This picture in particular was from one of my test shots, but I could never get the exact pose again afterwards

It is hard to duplicate a shot again but it was good you captured this one. Nice use of Ikea.

Thank you, I'm glad I did get the first shot, too! The lamp has been pretty useful to date

That's why I never do a "test" shoot; impossible to reconstruct the exact image!
This is a very nice piece, ribbons echoeing her curves.

that is true! LOL But it was my first time with this sort of lighting, and I needed to sort a bunch of things out, like shutter speed and position and all.... Maybe I should done the testing with static/boring poses instead
Thank you, and thanks for the fave!

Great shot, and I really think including the lamp (and ribbons) in this shot was a brilliant idea (pun intended!). I also think the position of your arms and hand are very interesting. Did you notice there's just a little light reflecting off the far wall, to outline your form on the other side?

agxposed In reply to bhalstead [2011-12-10 00:18:49 +0000 UTC]

LOL Thank you! I have no idea how I positioned my arms and hand for this, though it did certainly work well And yes, I did notice the bit of light on my other side, it was why I left it in the picture Thanks for noticing, and thanks for the fave and suggestion too!

If you can't decide which other pictures to post, you should just post them all (maybe in the scraps section)?

nah, too many pictures ruin the novelty of a particular style and pose, I think Thanks for the fave btw!

This is what I been waiting for! You took a risk and it paid off. Not sure about including the light source. Nevertheless, I love the photo!

I will try, alos got a lamp like that! lets see if I can manage that pose!! great done

it'll be easier to see the effects of the lamp if you have a mirror to show you what's going on at the same time, from my experience And stand a little bit in front of the lamp... moving closer and further away has different effects! Good luck, and thank you!

very interesting...
the addition of the red ribbons on the light help me understand or gives reason as to why the light is in the composition.
this is a good solution to this challenge.
do more like this... and like dwingephotography suggested, try a tighter shot...

agxposed In reply to draunaturel [2011-12-09 01:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Okay, am looking at the picture again... I think this is more of a square composition thing (or am I just making stuff up and waffling? LOL) It's not so much of just the body as the lamp too... like you said, the ribbon does kind of add to the composition, maybe because it kind of echoes the long lines... I like that it adds depth width-wise to an otherwise long and narrow picture (like bodyscapes usually are)... This picture feels a lot like an interaction between the model and the lamp, not so much of just the model alone so you concentrate on the shape of the lines.
And if I were to push things, I'd say that the fingers, small of back and arm all echo the direction of the lamp.

draunaturel In reply to agxposed [2011-12-09 03:39:15 +0000 UTC]

the lamp is certainly another figure in this composition for sure... it has to be dealt with as if it were another person... in this case anyway...
it would be interesting to see a version without the lamp and to see what it would say then.

agxposed In reply to draunaturel [2011-12-09 05:08:15 +0000 UTC]

=o how do you deal with an object like it was another person? I'll see if I have a similar picture to post (actually have tens but they all look the same in some way or another )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draunaturel In reply to agxposed [2011-12-10 02:46:14 +0000 UTC]

well the light is an other object that happens to take up about the same space as another human would in the image, and since it is by far the brightest and more contrasty thing in the image, it not only commands some amount of attention, it does seem to have a personality...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

agxposed In reply to draunaturel [2011-12-10 02:58:37 +0000 UTC]

that is very true! The light does occupy quite a bit of attention in the picture Not sure about its personality... Maybe a calm, sturdy sort?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draunaturel In reply to agxposed [2011-12-10 13:36:14 +0000 UTC]

maybe it was just me... lol

agxposed In reply to draunaturel [2011-12-10 15:42:58 +0000 UTC]

maybe, the personality thing is a difficult one to explain

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

draunaturel In reply to agxposed [2011-12-12 02:11:12 +0000 UTC]

maybe

agxposed In reply to draunaturel [2011-12-08 23:51:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm not actually very sure why I included the lamp and ribbons, other than because I found the ribbons on the lamp rather pretty and not often presented in a picture They do give colour and texture though! I suppose you could say that they are also kind of parallel, like the lines on the back and arms but not quite (and are pretty graceful), but that might be pushing it

The tighter crop would work very well.... it didn't occur to me, maybe because I was half-asleep when I posted this I have about 300 pictures from this shoot... have trouble deciding which to use LOL Thanks for the fave!

Really Beautiful, one suggestion for something in the future possibly, water drops on your skin and shot a little tighter? I love this though, just as it is

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

agxposed In reply to dwingephotography [2011-12-08 23:45:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'll try water drops a little further on, since having (and keeping) them on my skin will take a bit of practice I do see what you mean by making it a tighter shot! (Will have to as well because pictures with this framing don't give me a lot to work with in photoshop... the 100% sizes are tiny )
