Description
Did this shoot yesterday... I'd actually wanted to post something else from it, but wanted to wait until the weekend flood was over... then I got this idea and didn't really want to wait anymore. Also posting to 'redeem' myself from the previous post... Very oddly enough, Temple of Aphrodite didn't get a flood of faves/collection adds like I was expecting, on the basis that it was pretty much a blatant pussy shot. o_O I'm surprised! There were a slew of views, but overall it was under-appreciated.. Made me feel as if I was posting something crude. (And perhaps it is.) But then there weren't any comments proclaiming its brazenness/lack of artistic value, nor was there any testosterone-filled babble. I am intrigued. Someone explain this to me?
(Okay, maybe it's just not sensual enough to be arousing, and not artistic enough to be the darling of art critics.
And, no one saw the 'temple' in the image? XD
Comments and critiques appreciated.

The Temple of Aphrodite did grab my attention when i very first opened your gallery. There is a lot to discuss there... we will get to that in good time.
But this is what i would call a smart composition. there is an immediate sense of symmetry but upon closer study it is anything but... i particularly like that the figure on the right is getting up and leaving the image... or about to anyway. very often figure studies like this are so static.
this one is alive.

That is interesting - I did wonder what you'd think of Temple of Aphrodite, since its artistic merit is somewhat dubious
I did like the inclusion of the figure leaving too - the picture happened to be cut off that way (by itself, I doubt the individual frame would have much impact), but it works really well in here, alongside the other still figures! It's almost as if the figure study session were over and the figure decided to leave
It might be that extra dimension of time, or a living decision by the figure, that makes the picture come alive... Thanks for the new perspective!! And thanks too for the comment

that extra dimension of time is the kicker to be sure.
and concerning The Temple of Aphrodite, like i said there is a whole big discussion here ... It obviously can be discussed on many levels... I am not sure i will get into all of them right here.
first concerning artistic merit... this in and of itself has at least two levels of engagement. the one we see as viewers and the one you feel as the subject and photographer... (the second of which i have been holding off on writing an essay on for DA in general.. at least to those that look at the artistic nude section.)
as far as the viewer, i can see, and give you credit for the position of your hands... you certainly do get style points for that... although i don't think you took it far enough... granted, i understand how hard it is to photograph yourself in this position... so it is really difficult without lots of attempts to get the lighting just right. it is a subtle thing but i feel like the light should have been set so that there was no shadow cast by your left hand... and then if it was altered to be more of a high key photo it may have stylized it more and viewers may have seen it more as of the artistic statement you had hoped that it would be.
Secondly, the way you felt while taking it... this one may take more than one comment to get through... but as it is with guys, when they take similar images of themselves there is an added "something" they have that really taints their artistic vision... I am curious to talk to you further about your experience...
There are other levels of discussion that often do get talked about here in the artistic nude section that really have nothing to do with artistic comment or criticism.
and lastly, my hat is off to you for posting such a bold image. It is not every one that feels so comfortable with their body and or their situation to be able to allow themselves to post a photo like that.
again my hat is off to you... and i am sure that this conversation will continue as there are some thoughts left unshared...

Thank you! I initially wasn't going to post these pictures, since by themselves they look rather plain, but in a series there is some composition to be worked with

As I said you before, there are less people here at weekend. I usually avoid to post specially at saturday. Only sunday night people comeback.
To increase the Favs, you must have a growing base of watchers. You must also understand the best hours of the day to post.
And understand the process of exposure:
. In the first minutes, people that see the most recent could fave
. Then enter the watchers
. After 1,5-2 hours the photo appears in the 'most popular 8h'. At that time is important to have 15-20 favs in order to be in the front page (24 photos for non subscribers). If you miss it, less exposure, few favs.

That's very interesting Peter, thanks! I'm surprised that there are fewer viewers on the weekend, I always assumed there would be more since people had more leisure time.

that makes sense, thanks! I find that the quality of artwork also increases over the weekend... A lot more pictures with good lighting and models on the Newest page.
Personally though, the number of faves doesn't really matter in the end.. I usually only pay attention when good photographers fave my work/watch me, because then it tells me I'm getting somewhere.
