Description Old Art!
This was done a few years back. Drawn on a 18X24 in. sketch pad. Had to take a picture of it!

I'm very accepting of the many religions around the world, and I don't have anything against people who are devoted to their religion-I respect it. I'm just not happy when violence or hate comes out of a belief system. Everyone has the right to believe in their own God. Some of you might not agree with me, but that's ok, because I feel my purpose is to understand and not judge other people's opinions ^^

I thought that it would be fun to draw a picture with some of the world's main religions. The bleeding hands symbolize Christianity and crucifixion. Up top there the symbols for Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Wicca, and Sikhism not in any specific order. The giant thorny hands symbolize mankind's corruption of religion, and how we inflict judgment on our fellow man.

The bleeding rose symbolizes our suffering. I have no clue what the key holes are for. I'm just obsessed with keys and such ^_____^ Maybe they're portals into other worlds.

As for the eye, well, I don't know. It's just there Maybe it's the eye of God. I had fun coloring it.

Thank you very much for the comments!

Mediums: Prismacolor pencil, ps for brightness contrast and framework.

I love the drawing....but it feels kinda wrong putting the illuminati triangle (the all seeing eye) between little symbols of religions i hope u mean by ur symbolism that the eye symbolizes "mankind" who corrupted religions!! illuminati ,the elite bankers and powerful men have nothing to do with religion, its just a secret society tryin to take over the world!!! and i also read that this eye represents the eye of the anti-Christ!!
i have nothing against any religion but everybody should be against freemasonry ,"illuminati", satanism and new world order. they are the same thing u just gotta figure it out.

I really do like the drawind though

I wonder, how do you come to understand a person's opinion but not judge?

This is a lovely painting, it's the closest I've seen in orientation to what I've done so far, after many many hours of browsing deviantart. Thank you

This is a really nice piece of work. It represents my feelings on this issue right on.

God is too great a concept for any one religion to be the only one.

This is great, but you made one mistake in youe comment. The Yin Yang is a symbol of the chinese folk religon of Taoism and not Sikhism.

Other than that nice work.

I've read your journal on critiques. If your interested, then here are my feelings:

I myself am a Christian, so when I see works of art featuring symbols meant to represent Christianity, I feel like it is me that the artist is trying to portray. Maybe other people feel the same, or maybe I'm just weird.
As a whole, your piece is very unified by your style. I very much like the thorny hands. Good representation!

I can totally understand where you are coming from. I feel Christianity has a big influence on this picture. I'm very familiar with 'being saved' and redemption, regarding humanities sins. It's always been a powerful message to me. It inspires me!

Thanks so much for the kind words!

I envy you...making art with meaning behind it is something I have trouble doing. Which is kind of bad seeing as how my final project for my art class has to have some sort of meaning to it...

Anyway, this is very beautiful, and it makes you think. I like that. Plus, the images and symbols are all so wonderfully portrayed, and the colors are vibrant and lovely as well.

Sometimes it can be hard to find meaning in a picture-what does the artist want to communicate through the image? I always try and ask myself that while I'm working on a picture. It helps me understand why I'm drawing it in the first place ^^

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Very nice! I wish I had stuff like this in my sketch pads lol I never have anything than a rough sketch or a doodle.

I love the symbolism here, I'm actually taking a philosophy class called Religions of the World and I can definetely relate. Maybe the keyholes are showing a path towards a greater understanding of the different religions?

Aikya In reply to nekojizou [2008-11-04 19:43:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Wow that sounds like a neat class ^^ That's a good idea about the keyholes-maybe!

Locks and keys are some of my favorite symbols to show in a drawing-there is such a variety of what they could mean! I like those symbols that have a feeling of 'you don't really know what it means' about them, but your imagination can take over and decide! ^^

You've touched on some deep symbolism here, well done. It is quite amazing how similar religions are when their parables and allegories are translated and read correctly. The keyholes and the eye in the triangle are perfect additions to a drawing that touches on theology. Nice work with the colours too.

I'm glad you like this picture-it can be a touchy subject-religion, but it's universal and so many people can relate to it ^^ This was fun to work on, I felt like I could better understand the planet's people, and the many belief systems that we are apart of. These are only a few! ^^

Great work, and I love the idea behind it.

As a little girl I used to say how confusing it was as it seemed to me that every religion was telling the same story, so why do people war over it? Now as an adult I think if a little girl could see that then why the heck can't grown adults, but hey, the human species likes to complicate itself!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikya In reply to Elfin-Grrl [2008-11-04 19:45:43 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean!
I do feel in a way that humanity tells the same story over and over, through religion, only with different Gods and Goddesses and events that form into a creation myth.

But the word myth, for me will always have truth tied to it. Humans like to interpret things differently and create a reality of their own. That's how I feel anyway! ^^

Yes we do like to complicate things! XD

To quote, There is no truth, only perception Just about says it all for me! And how I love perception, because it creates such a variety of art and weaves the rich tapestry of life!

Really love this. I've never understood the reasons for conflict as I'm of the opinion that the religions and belief systems and traditions are different...not the faith or the God.

Beautiful piece and I love all of the symbolism. The colors are so smooth too, which only adds to the unity of the piece. Fabulous composition as well
