My answer? "I'm not sure."

Who the fuck cares? I'm not saying this as a negative against you but to those who ask the question? What role does gender play (besides when you have to take a piss in public) in the characteristics of a human? A person is a person. What a person does with their life should determine who they are not their gender.

I just read about the dA removing the option to choose whether to answer the "male or female" question. Have you? What do you think of it?
Granted, it doesn't need to be visible to others, but it's bothering enough that there are two options you must choose from and give the info to the site. And I guess the default is of course "male". Then you get a bunch of idiots complaining (about an issue that isn't about them) that non-cisgenders complain too much (about an issue that concerns them).

Yeah, I was pretty un-thrilled back when they did that. Luckily my account was grandfathered in. It's obviously motivated by money - if they know what sex you are, they can send you ads about how to get slutty babes, or how to starve yourself beautiful. 
I'm completely against it. DA has taken some turns for the worse in the past year or two. You'd think we could at least be at the stage as a society where we could have 'other' as a standard option on these things... Too complicated for some people, I guess.

Yep, guess it's too complicated to think about what to try sell to those "others". They like it simple: There are boys, who like durr hurr titties, and then there are girls, who like oo shiny pinky thingies!
(If I get enough readers to comment on my comic when it's proceeded further, I'm positive that at some point someone will say the protagonist gets prettier during a time when she gets thin because of starving.)

Most of them might work on paper, but are difficult to pronounce or just awkward as a part of conversation. The only one I've heard of that rolls easily from the tongue has been 'co'.
