I always struggled with lips....I wanted to draw them perfect every time....that simple heart like shape. Till I learned to just simplify with lines.
As for side few, it took me years till I could get the lips right and put a mouth that looked 'normal'. Before.....my characters didn't lips really in side profile, just a mouth on the side that made them almost look like a flounder XD
