When I first discovered this piece in the thread, it was the kind of thing I fall into at first glance. I would say you certainly created that dimension of visual depth. Then you punctuate that depth even further by taking us into that eye reflection and then sending us forward from there. The image, together with your poetry, presents a heart stinging story. Your story works because it's timeless.
I did enjoy the poetry included with the artwork, but I do not critique poetry.
Your texturing and highlighting of the skin is wonderful. You have a good sense of contour and the reflection of light. However, if you have the desire to, you might try some different shading techniques for the eye-sphere, prior to applying the tear effects. It's nice as it is, but I think you can coax out a little more depth without much heartache.
The color work is just astounding, and I'm wondering what it took to accomplish that. The definition is great. The blends and transitions are good. We have excellent execution of reflection in the eye. I would like to see a bit more highlighting on the tears to give them some profile.
The one true area of concern I have is with the contact between the top eyelid and the eyeball. You present a shadow line there and then leave us to believe that either the lid meets the eye right at that shadow line or there's a wide gap between the lid and the eyeball. You -must- show us clearly where the lid meets the eyeball, or it's a failed exercise.
Overall it's a beautiful piece, but it's not finished.

Very cool! The texture of the dragon's skin, the red scales, almost looks real! I like the composition, too, with the dragons in the sky reflected in the dragon's eyeball.
